This time, it is about a coaching move that could change the way the team prepares for the upcoming cycle.

India’s World Cup-winning coach takes over Namibia coaching, making it an important step for the associate nation and its ambitions of improving cricket in the country. Namibia, which has shown significant progress in the recent T20 World Cup campaign, is now looking to build a stronger and more competitive squad and improve its global standing.

As teams finalize their plans for the event, Namibia has appointed Gary Kirsten as their consulting coach ahead of the T20 World Cup, who helped India to win the 2011 World Cup and has been part of the India National Cricket Team Coaches List. Gary Kirsten Namibia Coach, will see a new phase in the cricket journey of this associate nation as Gary Kirsten Consultant, will work for the betterment of the team during the World Cup.

Gary Kirsten appointed as Namibia consultant ahead of the T20 World Cup

Namibia is actively working to improve its standing in international cricket, with its international tour schedules increasing and it competing more on the international front. The national cricket board has now appointed Gary Kirsten as Namibia's consultant for the men’s national team. The decision came as Namibia prepares for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and with it, they would now be aiming for a strong performance in the upcoming edition in Sri Lanka and India.
Gary's addition to Namibia's set-up will be a revolutionary change since the 58-year-old has been a World Cup-winning coach, with India winning the 2011 ODI World Cup under him. He became India's coach in 2007 and took up various roles in South Africa before that. Gary Kirsten said on his appointment,

It is indeed a privilege to work with Cricket Namibia. I have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication and determination to create a high-performance cricket environment.
Their new state-of-the-art cricket stadium is a testament to their commitment to making sure their national teams are competing with the best cricket countries in the world. Their senior men’s national team is performing well, and I look forward to adding value to their preparation for the T20 World Cup in February next year.

Gary Kirsten Coaching Career

Gary Kirsten Namibia coach, isn’t his first assignment as the coach; he has coached the Indian team, the South African team, and the most recent one being the Pakistan team. He has also coached teams in the Indian Premier League and was part of the coaching setup in 2022, where he coached the Gujarat Titans and helped them lift their inaugural season trophy.

He also served as the head coach and batting mentor at RCB, which adds more depth to his coaching profile and experience in international cricket. Gary Kirsten, Consultant, journey with Namibia is a new path in his career where he will now closely work with Namibia’s men’s head coach Craig Williams during his consultancy stint.
