Ireland Latest T20I Ranking After Historic Win Over India

Ireland cricket team created history at Belfast with a memorable win over India. This victory will be remembered in Irish cricket history as they defeated the best T20 team in the world.

The magnitude of this win can be measured on the fact that Ireland are not even at the top 10 in the ICC T20I rankings. On the other hand, India are No. 1 on the rankings, having won the T20 World Cup title earlier this year.

Ireland T20I Ranking After Defeating India

With a win over the world champions India, Ireland latest T20I ranking didn't significantly improve as they are still on level terms with Zimbabwe. However, they have moved ahead in the rankings and are currently at the 11th spot, with Zimbabwe just below them.

Both Ireland and Zimbabwe have 202 points each right now. However, Ireland are likely to benefit with this win when the next set of ICC rankings get announced next Wednesday (July 1).

If Ireland manage to win this series, they will gain a significant no. of points. But it is unlikely for them to move ahead in the rankings as Afghanistan, the next best team after them, is way ahead with 220 points.

Massive Boost For Irish Cricket

Defeating one of the best cricket teams in the world will give Ireland a massive boost of confidence ahead of their summer. Their debutants, Jai Moondra and Matt Hollard, played a key role in this iconic win.

Both the fast bowlers played their part and picked up five wickets between them during the IRE vs IND 1st T20I. While it was Moondra who started with the wicket of Sanju Samson, Hollard joined in the next over by dismissing Ishan Kishan.

The wickets kept falling at the other end despite Abhishek Sharma going strong. Apart from Shivam Dube's brief cameo, no other Indian batter looked comfortable on a pitch that was tricky to bat. In the end, India fell 34 runs short of the target.
