Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd Create World Record in T20 World Cup 2026

The West Indies Cricket Team are up against South Africa in their second game of the Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026. The match between the two teams is underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

West Indies were in all sorts of trouble as they had a horrible start with wickets falling like a pack of cards. The South African pace battery in Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, two of the best bowlers in the world, were all over the batters as they reduced the Shai Hope-led side to 83-7 at one stage.

But Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd had other ideas as they batted brilliantly and bailed their side out of trouble. They pulled West Indies back into the contest with a magnificent partnership, making sure that the side posts something substantial on the board.

During the WI vs SA T20 World Cup match, Holder and Shepherd joined hands when the their team was trembling under pressure. They counter-attacked the South African bowlers and put them under pressure, slamming them all over the park.

Both batters added 89 runs for the eighth wicket and etched their name in the record books. They now have the record for the highest 8th wicket partnership in T20I cricket. They broke the record of Scotland’s Preston Mommsen and Safyaan Sharif, who had stitched a 80-run partnership in 2015.

The Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder record partnership helped West Indies post a challenging total on the board. They will now hope for their bowlers to put up a good performance against a strong South African batting order.

While Holder got out, falling just one run short of his half-century with 49 runs off 31 balls, Romario Shepherd went on to hit a blistering fifty. He slammed an unbeaten 52 off just 37 balls. Both batsmen steadied WI's innings and showed why they are among the most dangerous batsmen in the world.

Thanks to their heroics, the West Indies posted a total of 176-8. Earlier, West Indies were struggling as they had lost four wickets in the powerplay. At one point, it seemed that they would get bundled out for a score around 130 but the two all-rounders had other ideas.
