India in Stable Position in 1st Test match

The 1st Test between India and West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, began with the visitors winning the toss and deciding to bat first, but the decision quickly had consequences as India’s new ball bowler struck in the early and middle overs. Mohammed Siraj was the key player, as he caused issues for the West Indies’ top order batters with his bounce and movement, ending the innings 14-3. He was well complemented with the ball by the best test bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, who took three important wickets at that stage.

The West Indies struggled to establish any understanding throughout their batting order as Roston Chase (24) and Shai Hope (26) were the only two players who managed to offer any fight before the collapse. The West Indies innings ended at 162 in 44.1 overs, which meant India had the upper hand from the first innings.

India's reaction was even and assured. KL Rahul steered the innings with a stylish hundred off 192 balls, showing composure and class against a well-disciplined West Indian bowling attack. Shubman Gill, captaining the side, played a steady knock of 50 to see the team through the tricky middle overs, while Yashasvi Jaiswal fell cheaply. The Indian batting order is good enough to avoid a collapse. At lunch on Day 2, India were 218 for 3 in 67 overs, leading by 56 runs and getting the West Indies on the back foot.

According to the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch report, it has provided some early movement for seamers, but as expected, it will flatten out, making for an interesting second innings. So far, with bat and ball, India has managed to have control of the match, and the West Indies now have to regroup ahead of their second innings and demonstrate some fight if they are to keep themselves in the contest.
