M Chinnaswamy Women's World Cup

The upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is set to be one of the most important events for International Women’s cricket. The tournament will bring together the best women cricketers from across the world in the one-day format. The International Cricket Council(ICC) has already confirmed that the competition will begin in early October and will run through mid-November, and is set to be played across multiple cities in India, with 31 fixtures scheduled, including two semi-finals and a final.
Amid the preparations, one of the major updates around the competition has been the changes to the Women’s ODI World Cup Fixtures and venues. A new schedule was recently announced by the ICC following a series of meetings with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The new schedule has brought a major shift in the Women's ODI World Cup venue list. Earlier, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was named as one of the hosts, but due to certain reasons, it will no longer feature as a Women's ODI World Cup venue. The decision marks a big change, as the M Chinnaswamy Stadium Women's ODI World Cup venue was considered a significant choice given its history of hosting matches and fan support. It will host some of the best cricket teams in the world. The new venues now have a different look, as the Bengaluru ground has been officially ruled out.

M Chinnaswamy Women’s World Cup 2025 Venue No Longer?

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which was earlier set to host a league fixture and even a semi-final, has now been removed from the list. This change has surprised both experts and fans. ICC has confirmed that another iconic DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, will now host the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 matches. Located in Navi Mumbai, the DY Patil venue has already hosted several international fixtures in the past and is now set to stage five matches, including three league stage games and one semi-final match. DY Patil Stadium to host the World Cup games is a decision that follows the inspection reports and discussion held earlier this year about the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium. The reason behind the replacement has been linked to the problems that came up after the Bengaluru stampede following the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory earlier this year. The Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed crowd mismanagement and stampede-like conditions that raised serious concerns about the safety. With the Women’s World Cup expected to attract a large number of fans, the ICC and BCCI decided not to risk hosting matches there.
Welcoming the decision, ICC Chairman Jay Shah described Navi Mumbai as a proven destination for the women’s game, “Navi Mumbai has emerged as a genuine home for women’s cricket in recent years. The support it has received during international fixtures and the Women’s Premier League has been remarkable, creating an atmosphere that elevates the players and inspires fans. “I am certain that the same energy will define the big matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup as it returns to India after 12 years.” “We stand at a pivotal moment in the journey of the women’s game. This World Cup has the potential to be remembered as one of those defining milestones that shaped the sport’s future, not only in India but across the cricketing world,” he added. India will be hoping to showcase why they are one of the few teams with the most ICC trophies in the world.
