India Steps In to Train Nepal Cricket Team for T20 WC Qualifiers

India and Nepal are building a stronger relationship through cricket. The Indian government is helping Nepal improve its cricket by offering training support. This includes giving Nepalese players a chance to train in India. According to the reports, the Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team will attend a special training camp in India.

The training camp will help Nepal prepare for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers later this year. It will be beneficial for the Himalayan nation as they aim to make it to their second T20 World Cup in a row. They were also a part of the T20 World Cup 2024, held in the West Indies and the USA.

Nepal Cricket Team To Train at NCA

The camp will take place at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from August 20 to September 4, 2025. This is an important step as Nepal prepares for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Oman this October. This is the second year in a row that allows Nepal cricket team to train at NCA. They had a similar camp in August 2024. These camps help Nepalese players learn advanced skills from top Indian coaches.

The cricket partnership between India and Nepal has grown stronger over the past two years. It involves the Indian government, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The goal is not just short-term help, but a long-term development. Both countries are working together to grow cricket at every level.

This partnership goes beyond the Nepal national cricket team. In March 2025, India supported a youth series held in Nepal. The series featured Nepal’s Under-19 team and the Delhi and District Cricket Association’s U-19 side. This helped Nepal prepare for the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers.

In July 2025, three talented Under-19 players from Nepal went to Bhopal for special training. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu arranged this special camp. Here, these young players got expert guidance and improved their skills.

Growth of Women's Cricket in Nepal

Nepal’s women cricketers are also receiving support. In April and May 2025, the Nepal Women’s National Team trained in Delhi. The camp helped them get ready for the ICC Women’s Asia World Cup Qualifiers in Thailand. The results were encouraging. The Nepal Women’s Team reached the finals of the tournament, showing how helpful the training was.

India’s support for cricket in Nepal became more formal in January 2024. That month, India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, met with Nepal’s Men’s National Cricket Team and CAN officials. The meeting showed that India is committed to the long-term development of cricket in Nepal. Dr. Jaishankar praised the hard work of Nepal’s players. He also said that India will continue to support Nepal through cricket. This was not just soft diplomacy. It was a sign of real development cooperation between two friendly neighbours.

India's Constant Help for Nepal

India’s help for Nepalese cricket is not new. Back in 2013, India gave a team bus to the Cricket Association of Nepal. In October 2023, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu gifted cricket gear to Nepal’s team. The support came through the B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and Indian company SJVN Ltd.
What makes the current support special is how regular and focused it is.

Earlier, the help came once in a while but now, there are year-round training camps, youth tournaments, and constant exchanges between the two countries. India is helping Nepal move from being a new cricket nation to becoming a strong international team. This effort is helping Nepalese cricket grow faster and become more professional.
