Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin is still making headlines even after his retirement from international cricket. The veteran off-spinner is set to feature in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026. After stepping away from the Indian Premier League and international cricket last year, Ravichandran Ashwin is now exploring opportunities in overseas leagues.

The former legendary spinner is currently a part of the Hindi panel for the IPL commentators 2026 list and is likely to do be present till the end of the tournament.

Ravichandran Ashwin Joins San Francisco Unicorns for MLC 2026

Ashwin has officially signed with the San Francisco Unicorns for MLC 2026, which is scheduled to take place from June 18 to July 18 in the United States. According to ESPNcricinfo, he will become one of the first high-profile former India internationals to play in the tournament.

Speaking about his decision, Ashwin highlighted the growing interest in cricket in the USA and his desire to experience it firsthand.

“The fact that there is so much interest from the kids and from a lot of people who have come and settled in America and showing so much interest towards the game, I just wanted to come and experience what it is going to look like when we turn up for the MLC,” Ashwin told ESPN.

Interestingly, the former CSK spinner was also supposed to be a part of the Sydney Thunder for the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season; however, due to a knee injury, he had to pull out of the tournament without playing a single match.

Ravichandran Ashwin's Incredible Numbers in IPL

Ashwin brings a wealth of experience to the MLC, one of the richest cricket leagues in the world. In the IPL alone, he played 221 matches, picking up 187 wickets and establishing himself as one of the most reliable spin options over the years. He started his IPL career in 2009 and said goodbye after the 2025 season. He has also represented India in 65 T20I matches, picking up 72 wickets, showcasing his effectiveness in the shortest format.

Ravichandran Ashwin MLC presence can bring a great amount of viewership given his stature in world cricket. It can also be helpful for the young players who can learn various things from the veteran spinner throughout the tournament.
