Why TG20 League Can Be Cancelled?
Just days ahead of the tournament, Telangana Cricket Association has issued notices to cricketers Tilak Varma and Mohammed Siraj, who represent Hyderabad in domestic cricket.
The notice has also been issued against the former India cricketer and current Director of Cricket Operations for the HCA, Ambati Rayudu. Not just the cricket players, the TG20 League legal notice also covers film actors Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh.
According to ANI, TG20 League legal notice states that the Hyderabad Cricket Association is doing business with corporate companies with the approval from the BCCI. It also adds that the Telangana T20 League promotion is an offense since it lacks BCCI's authorization. These reasons could lead to a potential cancellation of TG20 League 2026.
According the reports from Telugu 360, the Hyderabad Cricket Association has been doing commercial work in an unauthorised way by misleading the fans and their corporate partners.
It is not the first time that the TCA is protesting against the illegal conduction of the TG20 League. Earlier, they protested at the Indira Park, Hyderabad against the HCA on the day of TG20 auctions.
TG20 League Cancel on the Cards? TCA Secretary Responds
The General Secretary of Telangana Cricket Association, Dharam Guruva Reddy confirmed his side's position by citing a few HCA rules and regulations.
"Under Rule 30, the HCA Governing Council must obtain written permission from the BCCI. Without following any of these rules, a self-proclaimed Governing Council is deceiving the public by claiming they have BCCI permission when they do not,” Guruva Reddy was quotes as saying by Telangana Today.
Warning about the consequences, the TCA general secretary claimed that it can lead to the ban of the organisation and international players like Tilak Varma and Mohammed Siraj, two of the best cricketers in the world.
It remains to be seen whether the TG20 League goes ahead or not. The league is due to be played from June 21 to July 12 in Hyderabad. Two matches are scheduled for every match day with one of them being a night game.
