India and West Indies clashed against each other in the last Super 8 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. Sanju Samson Breaks Virat Kohli Record

While playing the historic knock during the IND vs WI T20 World Cup match, Samson broke the former India captain Virat Kohli's record of scoring the most runs for India in run chase in T20 World Cup. He surpassed Kohli's 82 not out against Australia in Mohali in 2016 and against Pakistan in Melbourne in 2022. Samson remained unbeaten on 97 runs and took the team past the victory line.

Sanju Samson record came at a time when India needed him the most. The talented right-hander stood out in a virtual quarter-final to knock the West Indies out of the T20 World Cup 2026.

After Samson, India's second-highest run-scorer of the match was Tilak Varma with just 27, which shows the impact of Samson's knock. He came in to open the batting and went on to hit the winning runs as well. With this knock, Samson has proved why he is regarded as one of the best T20 batsmen in the world.

Sanju Samson Helps India Qualify for Semi-Final

As mentioned above, Sanju Samson's 97-run knock came when it mattered the most. The right-handed batter himself admitted it as one of the best-ever innings of his career. Samson might have missed his well-deserved century by just three runs, but the kind of impact his knock made in the match was more than any personal milestones.

After hitting the winning runs, Samson,one of the best wicketkeepers in India, went down to his knee and looked at the heavens. It was an emotional moment for him and arguably the best knock of his cricket career so far.

India will now play England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5. The winner of the clash will either face South Africa or New Zealand in the final.
