'Most ODI Runs at...': Virat Kohli Breaks Ricky Ponting's Record in Indore

India's star batter Virat Kohli has hit yet another century in the ODIs in the ongoing 3-match series against New Zealand. In the 3rd match, Kohli went on to score 100 runs in 91 balls. This was his seventh century against New Zealand in ODI cricket. With each passing series, Kohli is getting closer to Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 centuries in international cricket.

In the third ODI at Indore, the right-hander broke Ricky Ponting's special record on his way to this knock. Kohli is one of the best cricketers in the world and is popularly known as the chase master for the kind of knocks he has pulled off in the past. He put up another masterclass in this game.

Kohli has batted at No. 3 spot for the most part of his ODI career. it is a position at which he has achieved most of his international success as well. He played another brilliant knock during the IND vs NZ 3rd ODI during which he went past the Australian legend Ricky Ponting's record of most runs at no.3 in ODI cricket.

Just like Kohli, Ponting used to bat at the No. 3 spot for Australia during the most part of his career. He broke several records and scored plenty of runs there. However, Virat Kohli has now surpassed him to become the batter with most runs at No. 3 in ODIs. This adds one more to Virat Kohli's set of records that he has achieved throughout his entire career.

Virat Kohli Gets Closer to Sachin Tendulkar's Record

During the India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI, Virat Kohli hundred came off 91 balls. Overall, this was his 85th century in international cricket. The 37-year-old cricketer is now just 15 centuries behind Sachin Tendulkar in the tally. While he missed out on a well deserving century in the first match by just seven runs, he made sure to grab the opportunity in this match.

It was his 54th century in the ODI cricket. However, he was dismissed by Kristian Clarke on 124 off 108 balls, including ten boundaries and three sixes. Following his wicket, India were bowled out for 296 runs, losing the series, 2-1. Harshit Rana went on to score a half-century but was dismissed on 52 off 43 balls.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 53 off 57 balls, including two boundaries and sixes. For New Zealand, Zakary Foulkes and Kristian Clarke claimed three wickets each while Jayden Lennox took two wickets. New Zealand's young team played incredible cricket throughout the series. as they defeated one of the best cricket teams in the world. After the ODI matches, the teams will engage in a 5-match ODI series, starting on January 21.
