Australia and South Africa are facing each other in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series at Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns. Watch: SIX & OUT! Dewald Brevis Makes Strange ODI Debut

Walking in at number six, the young prodigy wasted no time announcing himself, smashing a six off the very first ball he faced. He dispatched a short-pitched delivery by Travis Head towards long on for a massive six. It was a shot full of authority as Brevis carried his supreme form from the T20Is.
However, the excitement was short-lived. On the very next delivery, Travis Head bowled a fuller, slower ball, and Brevis, attempting another big shot, holed out to long-on. He failed to connect the ball with timing, and the ball went straight towards long-on, where Alex Carey made no mistake and completed the catch easily. The early wicket ended Brevis' debut innings on just six runs. However, Dewald Brevis first ball six tells about his aggressive mindset and the ability to shift gears.

Dewald Brevis was the star for the Proteas in the T20I series against Australia. During the 2nd T20I of the series, the stylish right-handed batter smashed a magnificent century and became the second-fastest South African to reach the three-figure mark in T20Is, scoring a century off just 41 deliveries. He also became the youngest SA batter to score a century in the T20I format.
The youngster is often compared to the AB de Villiers, the greatest of all time. He has the ability to perform well in all formats of the game. Brevis clearly has a bright future ahead of him and will be closely watched in the upcoming years.
Travis Head Takes Four-Wicket Haul
Coming to the first innings, Australia won the toss and asked South Africa to put runs on the scoreboard. The Proteas were off to a great start with openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton stitching a 92-run stand for the first wicket. After Rickelton’s dismissal on 33 runs, skipper Temba Bavuma carried the momentum forward; however, Markram, who was looking set in the middle, was dismissed by Ben Dwarshuis for 82.
Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke steadied the ship and built a 92-run stand for the third wicket. But once again, it was Dwarshuis who ended a long-standing partnership, dismissing Breetzke on 57 runs during the 40th minute of the first innings. It was the turning point of the innings. Then came Australia’s star all-rounder Travis Head, who broke the back of South African middle order.
He dismissed Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis in the same over. Both are one of the most dangerous batters in the world, however, they were dismissed by Head in the 41st over. Dewald Brevis SA debut in ODIs; didn't go well as planned. Due to the middle-order collapse, South Africa’s run rate slowed down, and the expected total of 300+ looked unachievable.
But allrounder Wiaan Mulder had other ideas. He kept the scoreboard ticking and helped the South African total get closer to 300. He scored 31 runs off 26 balls, including two fours and a six. His only six came in the last ball of the innings against Dwarshuis, which measured 99 meters. The Proteas ended the first innings on a good note and would like to carry the momentum forward.
