India started the IND vs ENG 1st Test in style. Shubman Gill made his captaincy debut in Test cricket. He also scored a brilliant century on Day 1 as India ended the day strongly at 359/3. While the day was dominated by the visitors, one thing caught the attention of the viewers.

During the match, a visual of Mohammed Siraj with an in-ear device caught fans’ attention. Some people thought it might be a communication tool. However, ICC rules do not allow players to use live communication devices during play. The device has been quite common during matches in England. Not only Siraj, a no. of other Indian players like Dhruv Jurel also wore it.

What Is The Radio Earwig Cricket?

The device seen was most likely a radio earwig, a small in-ear radio receiver often used by fans at live sporting events. The radio earwig in cricket allows the players to listen to live commentary while watching the match in real time. This helps them follow the action more closely and understand key moments better. Radio earwigs are especially popular in sports like cricket, Formula 1, and horse racing, where expert analysis and ball-by-ball updates enhance the viewing experience.

The radio earwig cricket simply tunes into a live broadcast, giving instant access to commentary without needing to look at a screen or miss any live action. Hence, it is a great way of keeping the fans and the players entertained during various phases of a game.

At stumps on Day 1, Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 127, and Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 65 at the other end. The Indian team will look to build a huge first innings total on Day 2. This was a perfect start for India in the series. The top-order fired, and the captain led by example. England will need early wickets on Day 2 to make a comeback. India had the upper hand in the 1st Test at Headingley.

Shubman Gill Leads From The Front

Shubman Gill showed great maturity with the bat on his captaincy debut during the IND vs ENG 1st Test in Headingley. He reached his 100 in just 140 balls. With this, he became only the fifth Indian to score a century in his first match as Test captain. Gill looked calm and confident. He played both pace and spin well. His footwork was neat, and his shot selection was excellent.

Gill shared good partnerships with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant. He anchored the innings after Jaiswal’s dismissal and made sure India kept building on the total. On the other hand, his deputy, Rishabh Pant, made a strong return to Test cricket. He looked to attack early in his innings. He came down the track and smashed Ben Stokes over his head for a boundary on just his second ball. But after that, Pant played cautiously.

He was watchful against the new ball and built his innings with patience. Pant scored an impactful half-century and gave good support to his skipper Gill. Their partnership helped India end the day in a strong position.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Continues Good Run Against England

Earlier in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul gave India a strong start. Jaiswal batted throughout the first two sessions and scored 101 runs off 158 balls. His innings was full of classy strokes. Jaiswal seemed in complete control until he was dismissed in the third session.

Just before his century, Jaiswal struggled with cramps. The physio came onto the field to help him. But the opener did not let the cramps stop him. He hit two fours in a row and then took a single to reach his century. It was his first Test hundred in England and overall fifth.

England captain Ben Stokes broke the big partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. He dismissed Jaiswal with a sharp delivery. It was a much-needed wicket for England, who had no answers to India’s batting for most of the day. The English bowlers found it tough to stop the flow of runs.
