Ayushi Soni Not Playing Today

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Giants are clashing against each other in the 9th match of the Women's Premier League 2026. RCB are the table toppers with four points in two matches, while Gujarat have won two out of their three matches and are at the third spot in the points table.

Their first loss came against the defending champions in their third match of this edition of WPL. The performances of some players have not been up to the mark in the match against MI, so Gujarat's management decided to drop Ayushi Soni ahead of the RCB vs GG WPL 2026 match.

Why Ayushi Soni is Not Playing Today Match in RCB vs GG WPL 2026?

Ayushi Soni is an Indian batter who also provides a medium bowling option to the team. However, talking about her performance in the last match against Mumbai Indians Women, Ayushi scored 11 runs in 14 balls and was forced to retire out by the team management as she was scoring runs at a very low pace.

Ayushi Soni Became First Player To Be Retired Out In WPL History

Ayushi Soni made her WPL debut for GG in the last match against the richest teams in WPL, MI. However, her first WPL outing didn't go down well as she became the first player in WPL history to be retired out. The right-handed batter came out to bat at the sixth position but struggled to score runs. She was batting on 11 runs off 14 deliveries without hitting a single boundary.

Watching her struggle, the coaches asked her to retire and sent another batter to the crease. Bharti Fulmali came out to bat and ended up playing an unbeaten 36-run knock off just 15 balls, including three fours and three sixes. Gujarat's head coach, Michael Klinger, talked about the decision in the post-match conference and said,

Opening Quote

“So we spoke to Ayushi and Georgia about that [in the] 13-over timeout, and spoke to Ayushi about really lifting her rate once we get to the 15th over, because of what we have left in the shed, knowing that Bharti is a really strong hitter, and probably just felt after that 16th over, that was the time to inject Bharti with four overs to go, and we knew we had some batters left.”

Closing Quote

Apart from WPL, this was only the second instance when a batter was retired out in women's franchise cricket. The first women's cricketer to retire out was Kathryn Brice of Manchester Originals in Women's Hundred 2024 against Northern Superchargers.
