Why is Prabhsimran Singh Not Playing Today in IND-A vs AFG-A?

The India A cricket team is currently locking horns with Afghanistan A in the ongoing Tri Nation A Series 2026. This encounter between IND-A and AFG-A is very important for the Indian side, as a win in this match will keep India A alive in this series, or else they would be knocked out.

The team has plenty of young talent, but some of them haven't performed as per the expectations, which forced management to make changes to get the best out of them. During the toss of IND-A vs AFG-A, India A skipper Tilak Varma announced three changes to the side in this important game, where Prabhsimran Singh was benched.

As the India A lineup was announced today against Afghanistan A, the wicket-keeper batter and opener Prabhsimran Singh missed out in the side and was benched for this game. The reason behind his absence is the inconsistent performance at the top order and his inability to convert starts into big scores. The expectations were more from Prabhsimran, and he failed to deliver as per those expectations, except for one good innings by him, where he also failed to convert it into a century.

Management has given another chance to Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya, who was dropped in the last match, and has joined the side as Prabhsimran Singh replacement at the top for this match. Arya was batting at No.3 in the first two matches of the series, which is not his preferred batting position and that led to a dip in his performance as well. However, giving Arya a chance by benching Prabhsimran Singh proved a good decision, as Arya regained his form.

How Was Prabhsimran Singh's Performance in Tri Nation A Series?

Prabhsimran Singh had an average performance in Tri Nation A series, where he started the series with struggling batting, managing to score only 2 runs in the first match against Sri Lanka A, while he bounced back quite well in the next match against Afghanistan A, where he scored 84 runs off just 69 balls, including 14 boundaries, but still failed to convert it into a century.

In the 3rd match of the series and reverse fixture against SL-A, he again failed to do well, ending his innings at just 11 runs off 13 balls. The youngster has a lot of potential in both batting and wicketkeeping, where he can become one of the best wicketkeeper in India, if he continues to do well in the future games.
