3 min
Pakistan Players in the Hundred

A significant majority of the Pakistan national cricket team players featuring in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup have formally entered their names for The Hundred auction, which is scheduled to take place in London. The list of players notably includes captain Salman Ali Agha, along with one of the best bowlers in the world, Shaheen Afridi.

In total, the auction consists of 710 cricketers across the cricketing world, with the exception of India. Among them, there are 63 Pakistani players in the draft. There are widespread reports which indicate that more than half of the eight franchises could potentially avoid placing bids on Pakistani cricketers.

The number of Pakistani players in The Hundred is also likely to be influenced by the international schedule of the Men in Green. Pakistan are expected to tour the West Indies for an away Test series in August, which may overlap with The Hundred window.

Are Pakistan Players Banned in The Hundred 2026?

In the previous edition of the competition, only Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Wasim Jr. featured in the tournament, both turning out for Northern Superchargers, while left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar was included in the squad of Oval Invincibles.

Six of the eight teams, London Spirit, MI Oval, Manchester SuperGiants, Southern Brave, SunRisers Leeds and Welsh Fire, have ownership links to Indian business groups or investors. Reports suggest that these franchises may choose not to engage with the 63 Pakistani names listed in The Hundred auction 2026.

Opening Quote

Regarding this growing buzz surrounding Pakistan players in the Hundred 2026, former England player, Michael Vaughan, quoted on X: The ECB need to act fast on this. They own the league, and this should not be allowed to happen. The most inclusive sport in the country is not one that allows this to happen.

Closing Quote

Among the six franchises with Indian ownership influence, four teams have direct association with IPL management, such as the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. These franchises have consistently avoided picking Pakistani cricketers in overseas tournaments, including SA20 in South Africa and the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates. At present, only one ILT20 side, Desert Vipers, features a Pakistani player in its squad.
