The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March 2026, featuring 20 teams competing across eight venues (five in India, three in Sri Lanka) in a 29-day tournament that concludes at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The teams comprise the 12 sides who qualified automatically, along with eight teams that came through regional qualification.

The competition begins with a four-group first round (five teams per group), from which the top two in each group progress into a Super 8 stage before semi-finals and the final. Host venues in India are Ahmedabad (Narendra Modi Stadium), Chennai (M. A. Chidambaram), Delhi (Arun Jaitley Stadium), Mumbai (Wankhede) and Kolkata (Eden Gardens); Sri Lankan venues are Colombo’s R. Premadasa and SSC grounds and Pallekele in Kandy.

With Kohli’s huge influence and massive fan support, the BCCI is expected to give him the chance to present the new kit. Adding to the buzz, there are suggestions that India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav might also be in Raipur, where the jersey launch could take place during the second ODI between India and South Africa. However, these are just rumoured reports at this moment and nothing has been officially confirmed by the BCCI.

Rohit Sharma Named Brand Ambassador for T20 World Cup 2026

Rohit Sharma has been appointed the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which was confirmed by ICC Chair Jay Shah during the announcement of the World Cup schedule. The competition will take place from February 7 to March 8, with India and Sri Lanka sharing hosting duties.

Rohit is one of the few players to have featured in every T20 World Cup so far, beginning with the inaugural 2007 edition that India famously won. He guided the team to their second title in 2024 and finished that campaign as India’s leading run-scorer, scoring 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70.

Following the victory over South Africa in the final, he retired from the format as one of the best T20 batsmen of all time. Across nine tournaments, Rohit played 47 matches, smashing 1220 runs at an average of 34.86 while striking at 133.04.
