India Women Secure Semi-Final Spot at ICC Women's World Cup 2025

The Indian Women’s Cricket Team had found themselves in a spot of bother in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. They started the tournament on a high note, registering back-to-back wins, and were surely looking favorites to win the tournament. However, things changed drastically for them, as after that, nothing went their way.

They lost two back-to-back games against South Africa and Australia, both by three wickets. It was then expected that they would make a strong comeback in the game against England, which took place on Sunday, October 19, at one of the smallest cricket stadiums in the world, Holkar Stadium in Indore. But that wasn't the case as they lost the match, registering their third consecutive loss. For the majority of the match, they looked like the favorites to win the match, but they failed to close it as England snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat, winning by just four runs.

But they bounced back well in a virtual knockout match against New Zealand on October 23, where they comfortably won the match and secured a spot. The Indian women's cricket team showed intent in that important game, where they built a huge total of 340 in 49 overs with the help of openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. In a rain-affected match, New Zealand failed to chase down the total, and therefore, India secured a comfortable and important win to reach the semi-finals.

India, who were asked to bat, had an impressive start with both openers, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, smashing crucial centuries. Smriti Mandhana accelerated the innings by scoring at a good rate and smashed 109 runs, involving 10 boundaries and 4 sixes. Pratika Rawal joined her opening partner, scoring 122 runs, and also created a record to become the fastest to 1000 runs in WODIs. New Zealand bowlers couldn't stop them from scoring runs, and Jemimah Rodrigues also scored 76 not out.

In the chase, New Zealand batters lost early wickets and failed to create a partnership that would have been crucial in taking the game forward. Indian bowlers managed to take crucial wickets in the early overs and forced New Zealand on the back foot. Brooke Halliday and Isabella Gaze managed to score some runs where other batters couldn't score much.

After coming extremely close in 2005 and 2017, the Indian women's cricket team has been aiming for World Cup glory for years.
