WPL Retention 2027 Live Update: RCB, MI & Other Franchises Updated Player List

The preparations for the fifth edition of the Women’s Premier League have moved into another important phase, with all five franchises finalising their retention and release lists on September 28. The teams have now decided which players will continue to be part of their squads for the 2027 season and which names will enter the auction pool.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz have all made changes to their respective groups. RCB, the defending champions, have retained a strong core including captain Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh and Ellyse Perry, while Mumbai Indians have continued with Harmanpreet Kaur, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr.

Several established players, however, have been released and will now be available at the auction. The WPL 2027 season is scheduled to take place from January 14 to February 7, 2027, while the player auction will be held on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi.

WPL Retention 2027 Live Update

The Women's Premier League 2027 live update includes the release of several recognised players. RCB have parted ways with Grace Harris, along with Linsey Smith, Gautami Naik and Dayalan Hemalatha, despite Harris being part of their 2026 title-winning squad.

Mumbai Indians have released G Kamalini, Milly Illingworth, Nalla Reddy, Poonam Khemnar, Saika Ishaque and Triveni Vasistha. The franchise has nevertheless retained its major international core, including some of the best allrounders in WPL, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr, along with captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Delhi Capitals have released Lizelle Lee, Alana King, Taniyaa Bhatia, Sneh Rana, Pragati Singh and Eddla Srujana. At the same time, the franchise has retained key names such as Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland.

WPL 2027 Retained and Released Players List

The five WPL franchises have largely retained the core of their squads ahead of the 2027 season, but the WPL retention list 2027 also misses out on a few notable names. Gujarat Giants have released England international Danni Wyatt-Hodge, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru have opted to move on from Grace Harris and Linsey Smith.

At the same time, some of the best women cricketers in the competition will continue to represent their respective franchises. Smriti Mandhana remains with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, while Mumbai Indians have retained their captain Harmanpreet Kaur for the upcoming campaign.

The Women's Premier League has established itself as the best women's cricket league since its inaugural season in 2023. RCB and Mumbai Indians have each lifted the WPL trophy twice so far, making them the two most successful teams in the tournament's history. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have consistently challenged for the title but have finished as runners-up in each of the first four editions.
