Greece Announce Squad Ahead of UEFA Nations League Playoffs

Greece’s national football team have announced their squad for the UEFA Nations League play-off stage as they are set to face Scotland later this month. The first leg is set to take place in Greece at whichever stadium of their choosing and the second leg is set to take place in Scotland at whichever stadium of their choosing.

Manager Ivan Jovanovic has done well with the team in the 2024-2025 edition of the UEFA Nations League Playoffs. Greece were placed alongside England, Ireland and Finland in League B Group 2 and finished in second place with 15 points same as England but have been ranked lower because of a lesser GD. They even managed to make history by defeating England at Wembley for the first time in their history.

Ivan Jovanovic has made some interesting choices as his team prepares to face Scotland. Vangelis Pavlidis of Benfica, Kostas Tsimikas of Liverpool, and Kostas Karetsas particularly are a few standout names.

Kostas Karetsas is just 17 years old and in general, is a rising talent who Jovanovic called up after he decided not to represent Belgium. Karetsas has been linked with many top clubs like Arsenal, Real Madrid and Chelsea. Karestas’s father has even claimed that they turned down an offer from Manchester City.

A few returnees in the squad who were missing against Finland in November have been chosen by manager Ivan Jovanovic. They are namely Pantelis Chatzidiakos, Sotiris Alexandropoulos, Fotis Ioannidis and Christos Zafeiris. An exclusion from their previous squad is Tasos Bakasetas, a midfielder at Panathinaikos who has not played in their last four games.
