Shillong will be in the limelight of Indian football soon, as it will host the Tri-Nation Women's Football Tournament from October 21 to 27 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The tournament will have India's senior national team, Iran, and Nepal as a significant step towards the development of women's football in the country.

The 15,000-seater JN Stadium, the home of I-League club Shillong Lajong FC, has a confirmed history of hosting top-level football tournaments such as the Durand Cup and recent international matches. Its experience with the Indian football team, having hosted AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and friendly matches, makes it an appropriate host for the high-profile tournament, solidifying Shillong's growing reputation in the national football arena.

Wailadmiki Shylla, Meghalaya's Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, confirmed the competition for women's football, which is being organized at the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) request. "We are confident that this event will also be a huge success because we have hosted similar international matches in the past," Shylla stated.

All three matches in the round-robin tournament will take place at the JN Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 PM IST.
