Johan Vasquez was born in Novojoa, Mexico, on October 22, 1998. He comes from a typical Mexican family, where his father and mother are both Mexican, and his parents encouraged him to become a footballer, as he started his career in the central defensive role. Vasquez started his professional career at Poblado Miguel Alemán FC in 2016, after graduating from the Pumas UNAM academy. He made his professional debut in the Asenco MX.

In April 2018, the Mexican international joined Monterrey FC on a two-year loan deal with a buy-back clause. After his loan spell, he started to come into the limelight as he played a crucial role in Monterrey FC, as Monterrey decided to sign him as their backup defender and paid his parent club approximately 1.7 million euros, making him the most expensive transfer between the top two-level clubs in Mexican football history.

Vasquez joined UNAM as a loan to purchase later option, and after two months, he caught UNAM's hierarchy's attention with a massive performance, and compelled them to buy his 50 percent rights in December 2019.

Playing Style and Strengths

Johan Vasquez is currently playing for Genoa. He is known for his strong defensive play, particularly in terms of reading the ball and intercepting it. He is trustworthy in defense, and he also has some key attributes like clearing, defensive stability, and understanding the game. The Mexican defender is also reliable in corners, and his additional skill is defending set-pieces.

However, he could improve in some areas like passing under pressure, build-up play, and hold-up in crucial areas, as well as in player vs player duel winnings, because his success rate in duels is too low. Moreover, he should work on his discipline and anger issues because Johan Vasquez has a high number of yellow cards, as this type of statistics leaves room for improvement related to his tackle timings.
