Dybala was born in Laguna Larga, Cordoba, Argentina, on November 15, 1993. His grandfather was from Poland and settled in Argentina during World War II, and his great-grandmother was from the province of Naples in Italy. Last year, he got married to Oriana Sabatini, who is the daughter of Venezuelan actress Catherine Fulop and Osvaldo Sabatini, and niece of former Argentine tennis player Gabriela Sabatini. He has a dual citizenship of Argentina and Italy; however, he has only represented the Argentine national team.
The 31-year-old kickstarted his footballing journey in Argentina itself, when he got enrolled in the Instituto de Cordoba in 2003, and at the age of 17, made his debut in the Primera Nacional B, the second division of Argentine club football, for Instituto, scoring 17 goals in 40 matches, breaking a few records in the process. What were the records? Firstly, he became the youngest goal-scorer, surpassing former footballer Mario Kempes. Secondly, he became the first to feature in 38 successive league games, again breaking Kempes' feat. Lastly, he scored two hat-tricks, again a first. This shaped his career, and he went on to become what he is today!
Dybala, who is nicknamed La Joya, operates as a second striker. Be it club or country, he plays just behind the main centre forward, but can also operate as a right winger or the main No.9 if needed. The 31-year-old is a fantastic dribbler, especially in congested spaces, establishing himself as a top baller, and is also a sublime goal-scorer. His ball control is exceptional, and the small, quick movements under pressure make him stand out. His ability to dribble the ball past defenders from wide spaces into the box ranks him among the best dribblers in the Serie A.
