Atalanta vs Pisa Player Ratings

Summary

  • Isak Hein's own goal brings Pisa's first top-flight goal after 34 years
  • Scamacca with a superb leveller
  • Dominant Atlanta fail to find the winner and share points

Atalanta shared points with new boys Pisa after a gruelling 1-1 draw at home. The hosts were rampant throughout the game, but the visitors showed great valour to nick a point. Pisa stunned the Gewiss Stadium when they took the lead midway through the first half after an own goal from Isak Hien. However, Gianluca Scamacca cancelled the advantage early in the second half. There was no separating the sides as the referee blew the full-time whistle.

It was a historic night for Pisa, who were back in the top flight after 34 years. Atalanta peppered their goal with attempts early on, but the newcomers held their nerve. To everyone's surprise, Pisa took a shock lead when Hien turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Henrik Meister. It was their first goal in the top-flight since the legendary Diego Simeone's goal in 1991. They preserved their lead till the break.

Atalanta started the second half with more hunger and reaped rewards as Scamacca displayed excellent quick feet after getting the ball from Mario Pasalic inside the box. He shuffled and curled one towards the bottom corner beyond the keeper's reach to draw things level. It was all Atalanta from that point on as Charles de Ketelaere, Scamacca and Daniel Maldini all came close to scoring the winner. Pisa were set in survival mode as they defended with everything to hold onto a point and celebrate their return to the big leagues again. They got their job done and earned a point, much to the host's frustration. Despite having 21 shots, Atalanta were forced to settle for a point.

Here are the Atalanta Player Ratings from the Atalanta vs Pisa Player Ratings.

Goalkeeper

Marco Carnesecchi-7.5/10

Acted as a sweeper keeper and dealt with some early troubles. Made some assured saves, but he was helpless when his own player put the ball past him.

Defenders

Berat Djimsiti-6/10

Was forced to defend the wider areas because of Zalewski's ultra-attacking tendencies. Did not cover himself in glory for the first goal.

Isak Hien-6.5/10

Was under pressure from Meister when he turned the ball into his own net. He had nowhere to hide from his mistake, but he coped well to deal with plenty of balls into the box.

Giorgio Scalvini-7/10

The impressive youngster had a great chance to score in the first half but couldn't hit the target. His ball-playing and calmness on the ball helped his side.

Midfielders

Raoul Bellanova-7/10

The right wing-back practically parked himself inside the opposition box with three shots on goal, and one of them came very close to being a match-winner.

Marten de Roon-6.5/10

The skipper had his task cut out in the middle of the park as the double 10s of Pisa caused havoc whenever they had the chance. His safe passing was a bit off-colour as well.

Mario Pasalic-7.5/10

Had a highly influential game with ball recoveries and duels won. None bigger than his assist for Scamacca that pulled the game level.

Nicola Zalewski-7/10

He was beaten by Toure far too easily for the first goal, as he failed to close him down. His influence in the attack was ever-growing.

Forwards

Charles De Ketelaere-6/10

The Belgian had a lukewarm game as his ideas were often let down by either poor execution or the opposition's brilliance.

Daniel Maldini-7/10

Asked plenty of questions to the opposition throughout the game and missed a big chance to win the game for his side.

Gianluca Scamacca-8.5/10

After having a quiet first half, he burst to life in the second with a fabulous goal. Picked the ball between the lines and swivelled before unleashing an unstoppable shot. He hit the woodwork and was constantly menacing the opposition with his dribbling and holdup play.

Odilon Kossounou-6/10

Manager

Ivan Juric-7/10

Continued Atalanta's tradition of using three at the back with the same formula of double 10s and attacking wingbacks. His side were very dominant on the ball but failed to make it count and will only get better.

Goalkeeper

Adrian Semper-8/10

Kept his side in the game singlehandedly with countless saves especially in the second half. On the rare occasion he was beaten, woodwork came to his rescue.

Defenders

Daniel Denoon-6.5/10

Threw himself on the line to win plenty of duels inside the box. Had some visible discomfort when he was subbed off in the second half.

Antonio Caracciolo-7/10

The captain was the leader of the defence for his side as he organised his side's shape at all times. He was in survival mode towards the end of the game as he cleared everything.

Simone Canestrelli-7.5/10

Put in a clinical last-man tackle to deny the opposition and had a great game when it came to incisive passing and breaking down his opponent's shape.

Midfielders

Idrissa Toure-7/10

His electric pace and agile dribbling caused trouble all game long for Zalewski in particular. He even had a couple of shots, but they were not anywhere near the sweet spot.

Michel Aebischer-5/10

The Swiss midfielder endured a tough time when it came to winning the midfield battle as he was roughed up quite a bit by the opposition.

Marius Marin-7/10

Showed good discipline when it came to ball-winning as he sat deeper and made crucial tackles for his side. It took a toll on his forward momentum.

Samuele Angori-7/10

He was the driver behind their first goal as a dangerous run and the knock back into the box forced the own goal. Had plenty of promising moments like that throughout the game.

Forwards

Matteo Tramoni-6/10

The Frenchman often struggled to get into the game as much as his fellow forwards, as he delayed every action by a second, allowing the opposition to read his game.

Stefano Moreo-7.5/10

Produced a beautiful flick to drive the first goal. He created multiple chances after playing high and narrow in the game.

Henrik Meister-6.5/10

Put pressure on Hien to force the defender into scoring an own goal. He succumbed to an unfortunate injury early in the second half just when he was looking sharp.

M'Bala Nzola-6/10
Juan Cuadrado-6/10
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro-6/10
Arturo Calabresi-6/10
Gabriele Piccinini-6/10

Manager

Alberto Gilardino-7/10

Produced a tactical display any great Italian manager would be proud of. His side's stonewall defence was hard to penetrate and his forwards were effective on the break. If he can replicate the same levels, survival would become an easy job.
