Besiktas 2-2 Crystal Palace Player Ratings: Pino 8.2/10 as the Eagles Squander a 2-Goal Lead in Istanbul

Crystal Palace had this won. Two goals up inside 55 minutes at the Tupraş Stadium, Pierre Sage’s Eagles were cruising towards a Europa League victory that would have significantly strengthened their group-stage position, yet football’s most reliable rule reasserted itself with brutal efficiency, and Besiktas hauled themselves level through goals from Ndidi and Olaitan to claim a point their first-half performance had barely suggested was possible.

Pino’s 51st-minute opener and Mateta’s clinical follow-up four minutes later gave Crystal Palace the platform their second-half pressing had created, yet Vincenzo Italiano’s half-time tactical reshuffle changed everything, injecting the directness and urgency that had been conspicuously absent for Besiktas across the opening 45 minutes.

The Eagles will reflect bitterly on what became of their two-goal lead, Olaitan’s 73rd-minute equaliser completing a comeback that leaves Palace’s Europa League progression in a less comfortable position than it should be. Yeremi Pino, for all his individual quality and 8.2/10 contribution, ultimately finished on the wrong side of a result his performance deserved to win.
