Crystal Palace vs Man City Player Ratings

Summary

  • Erling Haaland was the man of the match, scoring two goals in a clinical performance.
  • Dean Henderson had a difficult game, conceding three goals and giving away a penalty.

Manchester City delivered a statement performance at Selhurst Park, dismantling Crystal Palace with a clinical 3-0 victory. This was a classic Manchester City display under Josep Guardiola. They controlled the tempo from the start. Crystal Palace will feel unlucky, though. They hit the woodwork not once, but twice.

The deadlock was broken just before halftime. A beautiful cross from Matheus Nunes found the head of Erling Haaland, who made no mistake. It was a killer blow right before the break. What stood out to us was how Palace responded in the second half. They came out fighting, with Adam Wharton even rattling the post.

However, the City's quality was just too much. Phil Foden added a second with a sublime long-range effort, a goal that seemed to deflate the home crowd. The match was then sealed when substitute Savinho was brought down by Dean Henderson in the box. Haaland coolly converted the penalty to complete his brace. This Premier League encounter was a testament to City's ruthless efficiency in front of goal. A tough day for the Eagles. Here are Sportsdunia's Crystal Palace vs Man City player ratings.

Man City Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace

Check out the Man City player ratings for the Crystal Palace vs Man City fixture.

Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Donnarumma - 8.0: What a wall. He was fantastic when called upon. Made four saves, three of them from inside the box which shows how crucial he was. He commanded his area well, claiming high balls and punching when needed. His save from Yéremy Pino's header in the second half was particularly world-class. Keeping a clean sheet away from home is always a big plus.

Defenders

Rúben Dias - 7.0: A typically solid if unspectacular outing for Dias. He made a staggering 9 clearances, showing he was in the right place at the right time. However, he was dribbled past once and made an error leading to a shot, which was a little concerning. We noticed he was organizing the backline constantly, but there were a few shaky moments.

Josko Gvardiol - 7.5: A very strong performance from the Croatian. He was a beast in the air, winning four of his six aerial duels. He contributed defensively with six clearances and two interceptions. Gvardiol even got forward to test the keeper with a header. His physicality was a real asset against the Palace forwards.

Matheus Nunes - 8.0: Excellent display. He provided the crucial assist for the opening goal with a pinpoint cross. His defensive work was also top-notch, winning both of his tackles and making five clearances. He was composed on the ball with 92 touches and contributed to building attacks from the back. An all-action performance from the full-back.

Nico O'Reilly - 7.0: A very mature performance from the young defender. He won six of his eight duels, showing he was not intimidated. Made three tackles and four clearances. He kept it simple in possession and did his job effectively without trying to do too much. A reliable and solid game.

Midfielders

Tijjani Reijnders - 6.0: From our perspective, this was a quiet game for him. He was caught offside twice which stalled promising attacks. He only had 41 touches and lost possession 11 times which isn't ideal for a City midfielder. He had one shot on target but was largely on the periphery before being substituted.

Rayan Cherki - 8.5: The creative spark for City. He was simply magnificent. Two assists for the second and third goals, and created three chances in total. His five successful dribbles constantly put the Palace defence on the back foot. He was the main architect of City's second-half dominance. A joy to watch.

Nico González - 6.5: A mixed bag of a performance. He saw a lot of the ball, with 107 touches and 78 accurate passes. However, he lost possession 15 times and committed an error that led to a shot. He battled hard, winning seven duels, but some of his decision-making was questionable. Room for improvement.

Bernardo Silva - 7.0: The captain led by example with his work rate. He made an impressive eight ball recoveries, buzzing around the pitch tirelessly. He wasn't as influential in the final third as we've seen him be, but his defensive contribution was vital. Kept the team ticking over nicely before his substitution.

Phil Foden - 8.0: Scored a brilliant goal from distance that showcased his technique. He was a constant threat, registering three shots and completing four dribbles. What stood out was his willingness to track back, winning eight duels and making three tackles. A complete midfield performance.

Forwards

Erling Haaland - 9.0: The man of the match, without a doubt. He was simply unstoppable. Scored a fantastic header to open the scoring and dispatched his penalty with ruthless confidence. He was a physical nightmare for the defenders winning an incredible seven duels. His presence alone creates so much space for others. A clinical and dominant display.

Substitutes

Savinho - 7.0: Made a huge impact in his short time on the pitch, winning the penalty that sealed the game. Showed great pace and trickery to draw the foul.
Rayan Aït-Nouri - N/A: Came on late with the game already won.
Omar Marmoush - N/A: Not enough time to make an impact.
Rico Lewis - N/A: A late cameo to see out the result.

Manager

Josep Guardiola - 8.5: His game plan worked to perfection. His team weathered an early Palace storm and then showed their superior quality. The substitutions were timed well, with Savinho's introduction proving decisive in earning the penalty. It was another tactical masterclass on the road.

Goalkeeper

Dean Henderson - 4.5: A day to forget for the Palace keeper. He made a couple of saves but his performance will be remembered for the clumsy challenge that gave away a penalty. Getting a yellow card for it just summed up his frustrating afternoon. Conceding three goals at home is never good for confidence.

Defenders

Maxence Lacroix - 6.0: He had a tough assignment against City's fluid attack. He made four successful tackles and five clearances, so he was certainly busy. However, he struggled to contain the movement of players like Haaland and Foden. It was a difficult afternoon for the entire backline.

Marc Guéhi - 6.0: The captain tried his best to hold the defence together. He made six clearances and won most of his aerial battles. But the constant pressure from City eventually told. He looked composed on the ball but was part of a unit that was ultimately breached three times.

Chris Richards - 5.5: A really tough game for him. Losing possession 19 times is a statistic that jumps off the page. He made a last-man tackle which was a great moment but was often caught out of position. He seemed to struggle with the pace and intelligence of City's attackers.

Midfielders

Tyrick Mitchell - 5.5: He found it very difficult to make an impact on the game. He lost the ball 16 times and offered very little going forward. Defensively, he was often stretched and couldn't contain the runs down his flank. A performance he'll want to move on from quickly.

Nathaniel Clyne - 6.0: Had a very limited involvement in the game, with only 22 touches before being substituted. He had one wild shot off target but was otherwise anonymous. He worked hard but wasn't able to influence the proceedings in any meaningful way.

Daichi Kamada - 6.5: Showed some bright sparks before his injury. He created a great chance for Mateta with a clever through ball. He also worked hard defensively making two tackles. It was a shame he had to go off injured as he looked like one of Palace's better players.

Adam Wharton - 7.0: A chaotic but impressive performance. He was desperately unlucky to hit the post with a great strike. He also created a big chance for a teammate. The downside was losing possession 20 times and being dribbled past six times which shows how much he was involved for better or worse. He never stopped trying to make things happen.

Forwards

Ismaïla Sarr - 6.0: He was full of running but lacked the final product. He created two chances but also lost the ball 13 times. At times he looked dangerous, but he was often isolated and struggled to get the better of the City defenders. A frustrating afternoon for the winger.

Yéremy Pino - 7.5: Palace's best player on the day. He was a constant thorn in City's side. He was desperately unlucky to see his shot crash off the crossbar. He had four shots in total and always looked like the one who could make something happen. A really bright and energetic performance despite the result.

Jean-Philippe Mateta - 5.0: A very ineffective performance. He only managed 16 touches in his 63 minutes on the pitch. While he did get one shot on target, he was largely anonymous and offered very little threat. His tendency to get caught offside also killed a couple of attacks.

Substitutes

Eddie Nketiah - 6.5: Looked lively after coming on. He forced a very good save from Donnarumma and offered more of a threat than Mateta.
Will Hughes - 6.0: Brought on for the injured Kamada and helped shore up the midfield a bit.
Christantus Uche - N/A: Came on late and didn't have much time to get involved.

Manager

O. Glasner - 6.0: You have to feel for him a little. His team created good chances and hit the woodwork twice. On another day they could have scored. However, his defence was exposed by a top-quality side. The game plan was brave but ultimately they were outclassed by a superior opponent.
