Georgia 4-0 Spain Player Ratings: Mikel Oyarzabal Scores Twice as Spain Dominate WC Qualifier

9 min
Georgia vs Spain Player Ratings

Spain produced a dominant display in their World Cup Qualification clash against Georgia, cruising to a comfortable 4–0 victory that rarely looked in doubt. From the opening minutes, La Roja imposed themselves with authority, moving the ball with confidence and precision while Georgia struggled to match their tempo.

The visitors struck early and maintained complete control throughout the match. Mikel Oyarzabal was the standout performer, delivering a brilliant attacking display that included a brace and a well-timed assist. His movement and sharp finishing repeatedly unsettled the Georgian defence.

Spain’s midfield was equally impressive. Fabián Ruiz and Martín Zubimendi dictated the rhythm of the game, recycling possession and breaking through Georgia’s lines with ease. Their composure ensured Spain never lost their grip on the contest, turning the match into a showcase of their tactical discipline and technical quality.

Playing at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena offered little comfort to the hosts, who were second best in every phase. Georgia’s efforts were spirited, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tried to spark moments of resistance, but he often found himself isolated and outnumbered.

In the end, the scoreline mirrored the flow of the match: a clear, emphatic statement from Spain and a difficult night for a Georgian side still searching for consistency against Europe’s elite.

Georgia Player Ratings vs Spain

Here are SportsDunia’s Georgia Player Ratings from the Georgia vs Spain game:

Goalkeeper

Giorgi Mamardashvili - 5.5: A thankless task for the Georgian keeper. He was left completely exposed by his defence throughout the match. He did make three saves to prevent the scoreline from being even more embarrassing. Honestly there was little he could do for any of the four goals. What stood out to us was his body language a picture of pure frustration.

Defenders

Vladimer Mamuchashvili - 5.0: Had a torrid time dealing with Spain's relentless attacks down his flank. He struggled to contain the movement of Spain's forwards. While his pass accuracy was decent, he lost possession eight times. It was a long and difficult ninety minutes for the defender who was constantly on the back foot.

Saba Goglichidze - 5.0: Only lasted 46 minutes before an unfortunate injury forced him off. During his time on the pitch, he looked overwhelmed. Spain’s attackers gave him a torrid time. He made one clearance but it was a half to forget for the young defender.

Giorgi Gocholeishvili - 4.5: A truly disastrous evening for the wing-back. His clumsy challenge resulted in the penalty that opened the floodgates. That moment seemed to shatter his confidence for the rest of the game. He did hit the woodwork on a rare foray forward, which was his only positive contribution. Defensively, he was a liability all night.

Luka Lochoshvili - 5.5: Probably the best of a bad bunch in defence. He led the team with seven clearances, throwing his body on the line. However, he was still part of a backline that was torn to shreds. A handball was another blemish on his performance. He fought hard but it was a futile effort against superior opposition.

Midfielders

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - 7.0: The one shining light in a dark performance for Georgia. He was the only player who looked capable of causing Spain problems. He completed four dribbles and won eight of his thirteen duels. His effort was undeniable, and he even forced a good save from the keeper. He looked like a man playing on a different level to his teammates.

Zuriko Davitashvili - 6.0: A busy but ultimately ineffective performance. He ran hard and recovered the ball six times for his team. However, he offered very little going forward, creating only one chance. He was tidy on the ball but couldn't break through Spain’s organised lines. A forgettable outing for him.

Anzor Mekvabishvili - 5.5: Battled hard in the centre of the park but was completely overrun. The Spanish midfield trio passed around him with ease. He made a few tackles but also committed cheap fouls. It was a tough lesson for the midfielder who was chasing shadows for most of his 71 minutes on the pitch.

Otar Kiteishvili - 6.0: Kept the ball moving with an impressive 90% pass accuracy. He worked hard defensively, making three tackles and recovering the ball four times. From our perspective, he did his job quietly and efficiently. But he failed to provide any creative spark to unlock the Spanish defense. A solid but unspectacular game.

Iuri Tabatadze - 5.5: Largely anonymous during his 57 minutes on the field. He created one chance early on but faded completely as Spain took control. He struggled to get involved in the play, touching the ball just 17 times. It was no surprise to see him substituted early in the second half.

Forwards

Budu Zivzivadze - 5.0: A lonely and thankless job leading the line. He was completely isolated and starved of service. With only 23 touches in 71 minutes, he was a spectator for most of the game. He won a few duels but never had a sniff at goal. A frustrating night for the striker.

Substitutes

Guram Kashia - 6.0: Came on at halftime and tried to bring some stability to the backline. It was a tough situation to come into.
Giorgi Kvernadze - 5.5: Replaced Tabatadze but couldn't change the flow of the game.
Giorgi Tsitaishvili - 6.0: Had one shot from distance but didn't trouble the keeper.
Giorgi Kvilitaia - N/A: Not on long enough to make a real impact.
Giorgi Abuashvili - N/A: A late cameo with the game already lost.

Manager

W. Sagnol - 4.0: His team was tactically outclassed from the first minute to the last. The defensive setup was naive and easily exploited by Spain. He seemed to have no answer to their dominance. His substitutions did little to change the course of the match. A truly humbling experience for the French manager.

Spain Player Ratings vs Georgia

Check out Spain Player Ratings from the Georgia vs Spain fixture:

Goalkeeper

Unai Simón - 7.0: Had very little to do for large spells of the game. However, he was alert when needed, making two important saves. His save to deny Kvaratskhelia in the second half was top-class. He looked confident and commanded his area well. A clean sheet and a comfortable day's work.

Defenders

Pedro Porro - 7.0: A very solid first-half performance before being substituted. He was defensively sound and provided a great attacking outlet down the right. He even created a big chance with a dangerous cross. It was a disciplined and effective 45 minutes from the full-back.

Aymeric Laporte - 7.5: A Rolls-Royce of a performance at the back. His passing was almost perfect, with 101 accurate passes out of 103. He was calm, composed, and snuffed out any potential danger with ease. He looked completely untroubled all game. A defensive masterclass in possession.

Pau Cubarsí - 7.5: Just like his partner, he was imperious. The young defender played with a maturity far beyond his years. His distribution from the back was exceptional, with 95 accurate passes. He read the game beautifully, making key interceptions and clearances. An incredibly promising performance.

Marc Cucurella - 7.0: A typically energetic performance from the left-back. He was solid in his defensive duties and supported the attack well. He lost possession a few times but his work rate was excellent. He made four clearances and two interceptions showing his defensive awareness.

Midfielders

Mikel Merino - 7.0: He was a real force in midfield before his substitution. He won his battles, drew fouls, and kept the play ticking over. The yellow card was the only negative in an otherwise dominant display. He set the tone for Spain's control in the middle of the park.

Fabián Ruiz - 8.0: Simply a class above. He ran the show from midfield with his incredible vision and passing range. He picked up an assist and created three chances in just 62 minutes. He made everything look so easy. His performance was a joy to watch.

Martín Zubimendi - 8.0: The perfect anchor for Spain's midfield. He scored a well-taken goal to double the lead. His positioning was excellent, and he broke up play effectively. In possession, he was calm and composed, rarely giving the ball away. A fantastic all-round performance from the pivot.

Forwards

Ferran Torres - 8.5: A constant menace on the right wing. He scored one and assisted another in a brilliant attacking display. His pace and movement were too much for the Georgian defence to handle. He was always looking to get in behind and create opportunities. An excellent outing for the winger.

Mikel Oyarzabal - 9.0: The undisputed Man of the Match. This was a clinical and ruthless performance. He coolly converted his penalty, provided a clever assist and scored a fantastic header. Everything he touched turned to gold. He was a constant threat and the highest-rated player on the pitch for a reason. Simply outstanding.

Álex Baena - 8.0: Extremely lively and involved in everything good Spain did offensively. He was unlucky not to score, hitting the woodwork in the first half. He created two chances and was a constant thorn in Georgia's side. His energy and creativity were infectious.

Fermín López - 6.5: Kept the tempo high after replacing Merino.
Borja Iglesias - 6.5: Unlucky not to score, sending one shot just over the bar.
Yéremy Pino - 6.5: Looked dangerous in his brief cameo.

Manager

L. De la Fuente Castillo - 8.5: His game plan worked to perfection. He set his team up to dominate from the start, and they delivered in style. His selections were spot on, and the team played with confidence and flair. He couldn't have asked for a better performance. An easy and impressive victory.
