Mallorca Vs Atletico Madrid Player Ratings

Summary

  • The match ended with a scoreline of 1-1
  • Leo Roman was the best player of the match
  • Alvarez was the worst player of the match

Atletico Madrid, once a strong rival to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga, known for pulling off major upsets, is now finding it hard to crack the top five. Under Diego Simeone, they’ve only managed five points from a possible 12, reflecting a difficult season despite adding key players in the transfer window. Their match against RCD Mallorca was another disappointing display, where they earned just one point after a late equalizer from Mallorca’s striker Vedat Muriqi. Atletico will feel they threw away two points, having dominated for large periods and even earning a penalty.

The defining moment of the first half was undoubtedly Leo Román's spectacular penalty save to deny Julian Alvarez. That moment seemed to inject belief into the home side. Despite the visitors eventually taking the lead through substitute Conor Gallagher, their task was made harder by a reckless red card for Alexander Sørloth. It set the stage for a grandstand finish, and Vedat Muriqi duly delivered, heading home a late equalizer to send the home fans into raptures. It was a result earned through sheer grit and a moment of goalkeeping brilliance.

Mallorca Player Ratings vs Atletico Madrid

Here are Mallorca Player Ratings vs Atletico Madrid

Goalkeeper

Leo Román - 9.0: Simply heroic. He was the undisputed Man of the Match, and it's not even close. The penalty save from Julián Alvarez was a game-changing moment that kept his team alive. Beyond that one incredible stop, he made six saves in total, several of which were top-class. What stood out to us was his commanding presence and the confidence he inspired in his backline. Without him, Mallorca would have been dead and buried long before the final whistle.

Defenders

Mateu Morey - 6.0: A mixed bag of a performance. He had some decent moments and tried to get forward but was often caught out defensively. We noticed he was dribbled past twice and lost a couple of key duels. He put in a shift but looked a little off the pace before being substituted late in the game.

Marash Kumbulla - 6.0: It's tough to rate a player whose evening was cut short by injury. He only lasted 36 minutes and was just settling into the game. From our perspective, it was a real shame as his physical presence was needed. He didn't do anything wrong before he was forced off.

Antonio Raíllo - 5.5: The captain had a moment he'll want to forget, conceding a penalty for a clear handball. It was a clumsy and unnecessary error that put his team under immense pressure. While he recovered and made some important tackles and clearances, that single mistake almost cost his team the game. A captain needs to lead by example, and on that occasion, he failed.

Johan Mojica - 6.5: A very industrious performance down the left flank. He was constantly involved, though his final product was often lacking, losing possession 18 times. He worked tirelessly, recovering the ball eight times and trying to create openings. From our perspective, his effort was undeniable, even if the quality wasn't always there.

Martin Valjent - 7.5: An absolute rock at the back for Mallorca. What stood out to us were his 10 clearances, a testament to his excellent positioning and reading of the game. He was calm under pressure and won all of his duels. He was one of the key reasons the defense didn't completely crumble under Atlético's pressure. A very strong and composed display.

Midfielders

Manu Morlanes - 6.5: He kept the ball moving nicely in midfield, boasting an 88% pass accuracy. He provided a creative spark with a key pass and was solid defensively, winning all three of his tackles. However, he didn't dominate the game and was eventually substituted as Mallorca chased an equalizer. A steady, if unspectacular, outing.

Sergi Darder - 7.0: The maestro in Mallorca's midfield. His 95% pass accuracy shows how tidy and reliable he was in possession. He was always looking to make things happen, even if his final ball didn't always come off. From our perspective, he brought a sense of calm and quality to a midfield that was often under duress. He completed the full 90 minutes and never stopped trying to influence the play.

Samú Costa - 6.0: A battling performance, but one where he struggled to make a real impact. He was involved in nine duels but was dribbled past twice and looked overwhelmed at times by Atlético's midfield runners. He worked hard for the team but lacked the quality needed to change the game before being substituted.

Forwards

Vedat Muriqi - 8.5: The man for the big occasion. He was a constant nuisance for the Atlético defense, winning an incredible eight aerial duels. He was isolated for long stretches but never gave up, and his persistence paid off with a fantastic header for the equalizer. That goal was a reward for his tireless effort and physicality. He was the perfect target man and the hero of the hour.

Takuma Asano - 5.5: A very quiet and ineffective performance. He struggled to get involved, managing only 13 touches in his 68 minutes on the pitch. He worked hard off the ball but offered very little attacking threat and was a peripheral figure for most of the game. It was no surprise to see him substituted.

Substitutes

Pablo Torre - 7.0: Came on for the injured Kumbulla and added a different dimension. His willingness to shoot from distance tested Jan Oblak and showed attacking intent.

Jan Virgili - 7.5: Made a huge impact, providing the pinpoint cross for Muriqi's goal. A game-changing substitution.

Antonio Sánchez - 6.5: Brought fresh legs and energy to the midfield battle.

Abdón Prats - N/A: Not on long enough to rate.

Manager

J. Arrasate - 7.5: We have to credit him for his bold substitutions. Bringing on Jan Virgili, who provided the crucial assist, was a masterstroke. He set his team up to be resilient, and they fought until the very end to earn a valuable point. His game management in the final stages was spot on.

Here are Atletico Madrid Player Ratings vs Mallorca

Goalkeeper

Jan Oblak - 6.0: He made a couple of decent saves, including a fine stop from Valjent in the first half. However, his distribution was surprisingly poor, completing less than half of his passes. He couldn't do much about Muriqi's powerful header. An average day at the office for a world-class keeper.

Defenders

Marcos Llorente - 6.5: A typical all-action display. He was a constant outlet on the right, but his final product was inconsistent. From our perspective, he sometimes tried to do too much, losing possession 14 times. He was a threat going forward but left a little to be desired defensively.

Clément Lenglet - 7.0: A composed and solid performance at the heart of the defense. He was strong in the air and read the game well, making four clearances and an interception. He was comfortable on the ball, playing out from the back effectively. He handled the physical threat of Muriqi as well as could be expected.

Dávid Hancko - 5.5: A difficult evening for the defender. He looked uncomfortable throughout, losing possession 11 times and struggling in his duels. He offered very little going forward and was a weak link in the defensive chain. He just never seemed to get to grips with the game.

Robin Le Normand - 7.0: A commanding defensive display. He was aggressive in the tackle, winning both he attempted, and made six crucial clearances. He was a dominant presence, winning the majority of his duels and marshaling the backline well. A very reliable performance.

Midfielders

Koke - 7.5: The conductor of the orchestra. He dictated the tempo of the game with his intelligent passing, racking up 102 touches. His range of passing was excellent, and he created two chances for his teammates. He was the calm head in the center of the park that allowed Atlético to dominate possession for long periods.

Pablo Barrios - 7.0: A very bright and promising display before he was substituted. He was a constant threat with his driving runs from midfield and was unlucky not to score, hitting the woodwork. He was dynamic and creative, but perhaps faded slightly as the game wore on.

Giuliano Simeone - 6.5: Showed flashes of real quality. His dribbling caused problems, and he managed to create a big chance for a teammate. However, he also missed a big chance himself, which blotted his copybook. A lively but ultimately frustrating performance before being withdrawn.

Nico González - 6.5: A powerful and energetic presence in midfield. He won a remarkable eight duels and was a strong ball carrier. His decision-making in the final third let him down at times, but his physical presence was a key asset for the team during his time on the pitch.

Forwards

Julián Alvarez - 5.0: A deeply disappointing performance, defined entirely by his missed penalty. From our perspective, that was the moment Atlético Madrid should have taken control of the match. The spot-kick was weak and at a comfortable height for the keeper. Beyond that, he offered little threat and was substituted after just 62 minutes. A day he will want to forget quickly.

Giacomo Raspadori - 5.5: Largely anonymous. He struggled to find space or get involved in the game in any meaningful way. He was well-marshalled by the Mallorca defence and just couldn't impose himself. It was an ineffective display, and his substitution was justified.

Substitutes

Conor Gallagher - 7.5: Made the dream impact, scoring what looked to be the winner with a cool finish on the counter. A fantastic contribution.

Alexander Sørloth - 4.0: A disastrous cameo. He got himself sent off with a reckless challenge, putting his team under unnecessary pressure for the final 20 minutes.

Nahuel Molina - 6.0: Brought on to solidify the right side but couldn't prevent the late onslaught.

Antoine Griezmann - 6.5: Looked lively and forced a good save from Román shortly after coming on.

Matteo Ruggeri - N/A: Not on long enough to rate.

Manager

D. Simeone - 6.0: His team should have won this game comfortably. They created the better chances, earned a penalty, but failed to show a clinical edge. While the red card was out of his control, his team's inability to see out the game from a winning position, even with ten men, will be a huge source of frustration for him.
