Netherlands 4-0 Lithuania Player Ratings: Dutch Brigade Dominate WC Qualifier

7 min
Netherlands Vs Lithuania Player Ratings

The Netherlands produced a commanding performance at the Johan Cruijff Arena, sweeping Lithuania aside 4–0 in a completely one-sided World Cup Qualification Europe encounter. From start to finish, the Oranje controlled proceedings with confidence and composure, leaving the visitors with little hope of an upset.

Frenkie de Jong was central to the Dutch dominance, dictating the tempo from midfield and ensuring the hosts maintained fluidity and precision in their play. Lithuania struggled to cope with the speed of the Dutch ball movement and spent much of the match pinned deep in their own half.

Tijjani Reijnders broke the deadlock with a tidy finish, setting the tone for what would become a long night for the Lithuanian defence. Cody Gakpo doubled the advantage from the penalty spot before halftime, giving the Netherlands firm control.

The second half brought no respite for Lithuania. Xavi Simons added a third with a composed strike, and Donyell Malen capped off the victory with a late goal to seal a comprehensive win.

The result reinforces the Netherlands’ strong position in the group and highlights the growing confidence and cohesion within Ronald Koeman’s squad.

Goalkeeper

Bart Verbruggen - 6.5: Had arguably the best seat in the house to watch his team dominate. He was called upon to make just one save all game. Remained alert and distributed the ball well, completing 23 of his 26 passes. A very quiet evening for the Dutch keeper.

Defenders

Jurriën Timber - 6.0: Looked decent for the 64 minutes he was on the pitch before an injury forced him off. He pushed forward well but will be kicking himself for missing a big chance. His game was unfortunately cut short, which was a shame to see.

Virgil van Dijk - 8.0: A true captain's performance. He was an immovable object at the back, winning all his duels and making a massive eight clearances. What stood out to us was his contribution going forward, creating a big chance and even testing the keeper with a header. Looked completely in control.

Nathan Aké - 6.0: Not his sharpest performance in an orange shirt. An uncharacteristic error led to a shot for Lithuania. He was solid for the most part but seemed a little off the pace compared to his defensive partners. We expected a bit more from him.

Matthijs de Ligt - 8.0: Absolutely colossal. He was a beast in the air, winning six aerial duels, and was just as dominant on the ground winning 7 of 8 duels. Recovered the ball nine times, showing his excellent reading of the game. A commanding and authoritative display.

Midfielders

Xavi Simons - 7.5: A livewire in midfield, buzzing with energy and creativity. He capped his performance with a well-taken goal, showing great instinct in the box. His link-up play was excellent, and he was a constant problem for the Lithuanian defense before being subbed.

Tijjani Reijnders - 9.0: Our pick for the man of the match, just edging out Gakpo. He was simply sensational. Scored the crucial opening goal, provided a lovely assist, and was desperately unlucky to see another effort crash against the woodwork. A complete midfield performance.

Frenkie de Jong - 8.5: The conductor of the orchestra. For the 63 minutes he played, he was untouchable. Glided across the pitch, dictating the entire flow of the game with an incredible 93% pass accuracy. He created two big chances and registered an assist, just another day at the office for him.

Forwards

Memphis Depay - 6.5: A frustrating night for Memphis. While he created three chances for his teammates, he was also incredibly wasteful, losing possession 17 times. He just couldn't seem to find his rhythm and was rightly substituted after the hour mark.

C. Gakpo - 9.0: What a performance. He was the highest-rated player for a reason. He scored the penalty with confidence, grabbed an assist, and was a constant thorn in Lithuania's side. His power and dribbling were too much to handle, and he was involved in all the best attacking moves.

Donyell Malen - 8.0: Showcased his blistering pace and clinical finishing with a fantastic goal on the counter-attack. He was a nightmare for the defenders to track, completing four dribbles and always looking to get in behind. A very effective and dangerous display.

Substitutes

Quinten Timber - 6.5: Came on and kept the midfield ticking over nicely. Lutsharel Geertruida - 6.5: Slotted in seamlessly at the back. Emmanuel Emegha - 6.0: Got into good positions but missed a clear late chance. Noa Lang - 6.5: Looked lively and created a chance. Luciano Valente - N/A: Not on long enough to make an impact.

Manager

R. Koeman - 8.0: His game plan worked to perfection. He set his team up to attack from the outset, and they executed his vision flawlessly. The substitutions were timed well to maintain control and rest key players. An easy day at the office for the Dutch boss.

Lithuania Player Ratings vs Netherlands

Check out Lithuania Player Ratings from Netherlands vs Lithuania World Cup Qualifier:

Goalkeeper

Edvinas Gertmonas - 6.0: A thankless task. He conceded four goals but, from our perspective, he prevented the score from being far worse. Made four saves, all from inside the box, and showed bravery. Could do little about any of the goals.

Defenders

Artemijus Tutyškinas - 3.0: A truly disastrous performance. He was at fault for a goal with a terrible error and then gave away the penalty. It was a night he will want to forget immediately. Just seemed overwhelmed by the occasion and the opposition.

Edgaras Utkus - 6.5: Battled hard against the orange wave. He threw his body on the line, making three crucial blocks and eight clearances. Despite the scoreline, he can hold his head relatively high. He was one of the few who showed real fight.

Vilius Armalas - 6.0: Similar to Utkus, he was constantly under pressure but stood up to the challenge reasonably well. Made eight clearances and won his tackles. It was a tough night, but he didn't disgrace himself.

Justas Lasickas - 5.0: Had a torrid time trying to contain the Dutch wingers. He was dribbled past twice and struggled to contribute going forward, losing the ball far too often. An evening of chasing shadows for him.

Midfielders

Modestas Vorobjovas - 5.5: Worked hard but was completely overrun in the midfield battle. He couldn't get close to De Jong or Reijnders. Put in a shift but it wasn't nearly enough to stem the tide.

Gvidas Gineitis - 7.0: Lithuania's standout player, without a doubt. What stood out to us was his tenacity and fighting spirit. He won an incredible eight of his nine duels and made five successful tackles. A lone warrior in a losing battle.

Tomas Kalinauskas - 5.5: Registered a shot on target, which was a rare moment of threat from Lithuania. However he was largely anonymous otherwise and failed to impose himself on the match before being substituted.

Gratas Sirgėdas - 5.0: Hooked at halftime after making little to no impression on the game. He only had 14 touches, which tells its own story. The game simply passed him by.

Pijus Sirvys - 4.0: Another player taken off at the break. He had a nightmare first half, committing several fouls and picking up a booking. Looked completely out of his depth against the quality of the Netherlands.

Forwards

Fedor Černych - 4.5: The captain was utterly isolated up front. He managed just 11 touches in his 59 minutes on the pitch. He had no service and no way of influencing the proceedings. A very lonely and frustrating game for him.

Substitutes

Markas Beneta - 5.5: Brought on at half time but couldn't change the flow of the game. Paulius Golubickas - 5.5: Worked hard but offered little creativity. Gytis Paulauskas - 5.0: Picked up a yellow card and offered little else. Motiejus Burba - 6.0: Had a speculative long-range shot that went over. Klaudijus Upstas - N/A: Came on too late to rate.

Manager

E. Jankauskas - 4.0: His team came with a plan to defend, but it was torn to shreds within 15 minutes. They were tactically outclassed, and his substitutions had no positive effect on the game. A very tough lesson for him and his squad.

Sportsdunia's Player of the Match goes to Tijjani Reijnders.
