Sporting Vs Club Brugge Player Ratings

Summary

  • Sporting delivered a dominant all-round performance, controlling the match from the first whistle and securing a comfortable 3-0 win.
  • Club Brugge struggled to match Sporting’s intensity, with the hosts' clinical finishing and strong defence making the difference.

A truly one-sided affair at the Estádio José Alvalade saw Sporting CP dismantle a struggling Club Brugge with a comprehensive 3-0 victory in the Champions League. The scoring was opened by the sensational midfielder Geovany Quenda, who was a thorn in Brugge's side all evening. His goal was a sign of things to come. Luis Suarez and ex-Barcelona player Francisco Trincao added to the tally, sealing a performance that will send a message to their rivals. What stood out to us was how Sporting didn't even seem to hit top gear, yet they were miles ahead of their opponents in this match.

Sporting Player Ratings vs Club Brugge

Here are Sporting Player Ratings vs Club Brugge

Goalkeeper

Rui Silva - 6.5: Had very little to do for most of the game, which is a testament to his defense. He made the one save required of him with no fuss. His distribution was clean and he commanded his area well when called upon. A quiet but efficient night at the office for the keeper.

Defenders

Maxi Araújo - 7.5: A really strong performance from the defender. He was a rock at the back, winning an impressive seven out of nine duels. What stood out to us was his energy getting up and down the flank. He contributed defensively with four clearances and two tackles, and was a constant outlet in attack. A very complete display.

Iván Fresneda - 7.0: Solid and dependable. He kept possession well, boasting a 91% pass accuracy, and even created a big chance for his team. We noticed he was calm under pressure and made smart decisions on the ball. He wasn't tested too much defensively but did his job effectively when needed.

Gonçalo Inácio - 6.0: A slightly mixed bag from Inácio. He made a high volume of passes but his error leading to a shot was a nervy moment. He looked a little less composed than his defensive partners, losing possession 11 times. Still, he contributed with five clearances and was a presence in the air.

Ousmane Diomande - 7.5: A monster at the back. We were very impressed by his reading of the game, making eight clearances and barely putting a foot wrong. An incredible 94% pass accuracy shows his comfort on the ball. He won most of his duels and was a calming influence throughout.

Midfielders

Geovany Quenda - 9.0: The star of the show. Man of the Match, without a doubt. He was electric every time he touched the ball, scoring a goal, providing an assist, and creating three key passes. His direct running and creativity were too much for Brugge to handle. A truly phenomenal performance from the youngster.

Geny Catamo - 8.5: Two assists for Catamo capped a brilliant attacking display. He was a constant threat, creating a big chance and getting two of his three shots on target. He also missed a big chance himself, but his creative output was undeniable. A fantastic contribution to a dominant win.

Francisco Trincão - 8.0: Got the goal his hard work deserved. Trincão was busy all night, contributing both in attack and defense with three tackles. He linked up play nicely and was always looking to make something happen. A very polished and effective performance.

Morten Hjulmand - 7.5: The captain led by example in the middle of the park. Despite an early yellow card, he was disciplined and intelligent, making five crucial interceptions. He controlled the tempo of the game with his 92% pass accuracy. A proper midfield general's performance.

João Simões - 6.0: A steady, if unspectacular, performance. He did his job quietly, keeping the ball moving with 90% pass accuracy. However, he struggled a bit with the physical side, committing three fouls and losing most of his duels before being substituted.

Forwards

Luis Suárez - 8.5: A classic chaotic performance from the striker. He was a nightmare for the Brugge defense, bagging a goal and an assist. He hit the woodwork and could have scored more, but his presence was immense. He won fouls, held the ball up, and was a constant menace.

Substitutes

Hidemasa Morita - 6.5: Came on and kept the midfield ticking over. Looked comfortable in possession.

Salvador Blopa - 6.0: Had a late shot saved and looked lively in his brief cameo.

Alisson Santos - N/A: Not enough time to make a significant impact.

Matheus Reis - N/A: Brought on late to see out the game.

Rodrigo Ribeiro - N/A: Had little time to influence proceedings.

Manager

R. Gomes Borges - 8.0: His game plan worked to perfection. His team was well-drilled, aggressive, and clinical. The setup allowed his creative players to flourish and they completely dominated the opposition from start to finish. A flawless night's work.

Goalkeeper

Nordin Jackers - 7.0: It feels strange to give a keeper who conceded three a high rating, but it would have been six or seven without him. He made six saves, five of them from inside the box. He was left completely exposed by his defense. From our perspective, he was one of the few Brugge players who can hold his head high.

Defenders

Joel Ordóñez - 5.5: A tough evening for the defender. While his passing stats look good, he struggled to contain Sporting's fluid attack and committed three fouls. He seemed a step off the pace and was part of a defensive unit that was all at sea.

Hugo Siquet - 5.0: Really struggled against Sporting's wingers. His error leading to a shot was a sign of his difficult night. He lost possession nine times and was caught out of position on several occasions. Substituted after a poor display.

Brandon Mechele - 6.0: Tried his best to hold a leaky defense together. He passed the ball well and won most of his individual duels. However, as a unit, the defense was shambolic, and he has to take some responsibility for the lack of organization.

Joaquin Seys - 5.0: A night to forget. He was dribbled past, committed fouls, and picked up a yellow card for a clumsy challenge. He created one chance going forward but his defensive shortcomings were brutally exposed before he was taken off.

Midfielders

Christos Tzolis - 5.0: Almost completely anonymous. He lost possession 17 times and his crossing was wayward. His performance was summed up by a frustrated yellow card. He offered very little threat and was a passenger for most of the game.

Carlos Forbs - 4.5: A very poor performance. He had just 22 touches in 74 minutes and lost the ball 11 of those times. He looked completely out of his depth and offered nothing going forward or defensively. Easily one of the worst performers on the pitch.

Raphael Onyedika - 6.5: One of the few who showed some fight. He was busy in midfield, recovering the ball seven times and winning half of his duels. However, he also gave away cheap fouls and got a yellow card. A battling but ultimately frustrating performance.

Hans Vanaken - 5.5: As the captain, you expect more. He saw a lot of the ball but was incredibly wasteful, losing it 17 times. He failed to impose himself on the game or provide the creative spark his team desperately needed. A disappointing outing.

Aleksandar Stanković - 5.5: Kept it tidy in possession but his performance was far too safe. He offered little penetration and was largely ineffective before being substituted. Needed to be braver and take more risks to change the game.

Forwards

Romeo Vermant - 5.0: Was completely isolated up front. He lost possession 13 times from only 33 touches, which tells its own story. He was given no service and struggled against a dominant Sporting defense. A thankless task for the young striker.

Substitutes

Nicolò Tresoldi - 6.0: Looked a bit more threatening than the man he replaced, but missed a decent chance.

Hugo Vetlesen - 5.5: Didn't really change the flow of the game.

Mamadou Diakhon - 5.5: Brought energy but little quality.

Zaid Romero - N/A: Not on long enough to rate.

Jorne Spileers - N/A: Not on long enough to rate.

Manager

N. Hayen - 4.5: His team looked tactically outclassed and unprepared for Sporting's intensity. The defensive setup was a disaster, and the midfield was completely overrun. His substitutions made little difference. A very bad day at the office for the manager.
