Fulham Football Club is based in Fulham, West London, England. Fulham FC officially started their journey as a cricket club, but later they changed their sport and included their name in Football. Fulham Football Club started its football journey in the Craven Cottage Stadium, which is still Fulham F.C.'s home ground. Fulham FC played their first match against Minerva. The Club gained its professional status on December 12, 1898, and later that year, Fulham Football Club were included in the Southern League, which was the second division of English Football. Fulham Football Club became the third club from London to turn into a professional football club, alongside Arsenal FC as Royal Arsenal and Millwall.
Fulham FC earned its promotion to the English Football League, which was the next season after its introduction in the second division. First match in the First Division, Fulham FC faced Hull City, and they lost the match. In that season, Fulham Football Club faced Luton Town, where they ran a riot on Luton Town and beat them with a huge 8-3 score line, and secured their spot in the semi-final. In the Semi-final, Fulham FC faced Newcastle United. In that match, Fulham FC was thrashed by Newcastle United with a 6-0 score line, which is still a record in the FA Cup semi-final. Fulham FC were relegated to the third division in the 1927-28 season.
During this period, businessman and politician Henry Norris was the club chairman, and controversially, he had an indirect role in the foundation of Fulham's local rivals, Chelsea. Fulham FC finished fifth, seventh, and ninth in three seasons in the third division. Fulham F.C. were crowned champions of the third division in the 1931-32 season. After World War II, Fulham FC clinched the Second Division trophy and secured their spot in the first tier. Fulham FC are known as the Cottagers, which are also their nickname. In the 1931-32 season, Fulham FC finished in the last spot on the table, winning 8 of 22 games, and were relegated back again second division. Fulham F.C. reached the FA Cup finals and won the tournament, which were Fulham FC's best run in this competition in Fulham FC's history.
In 1997, Egyptian business tycoon Mohamed Al-Fayed bought the club for just £6.7 million. In his tenure, Fulham FC have witnessed multiple ups and downs. After the establishment of the English Premier League in 1992, Fulham FC have become one of the clubs which was included in the first tier. In that season, Fulham FC again faced relegation and were relegated to the second division. After spending a few years in the second division, in the 2001-02 season, Fulham FC finally secured their spot in the main division of English Football, the Premier League. After spending some years in the top division as a mid-table club, the Cottagers' boss, Roy Hodgson, left the club, and Mark Hughes came as the successor of Hodgson. Meanwhile, Fulham FC have become a permanent Premier League club. In 2013, Shahid Khan took over Fulham FC and became the new chairman of the club.
