Over the past few years, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., commonly known as Wolves, have been a staple in the Premier League, England’s top division. Wolves history is marked by significant achievements. In the 2023–24 season, Wolves finished 14th in the Premier League, improving by five points from the 2023-24 season, and played in the FA Cup quarterfinals, though they took an early exit in the EFL Cup in the third round.
Wolves are currently managed by Vitor Pereira. Pereira, an experienced Portuguese coach, took over the reins of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. midway through the 2024–25 season, in which they finished in 17th place, narrowly above the relegation zone.
Financially, Wolves have a net worth of approximately $123 million as of 2022, with revenue for the 2023–24 season at £177 million, up from £168 million, due to broadcasting and Wolves sponsor income, and a strong showing in the FA Cup.
The club’s valuation is strengthened by its ownership under Fosun International, with chairman Guo Guangchang’s net worth at £5 billion. Wolves’ strategic player sales, including Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, and Maximilian Kilman, generated £64–£80 million in recent seasons, enabling compliance with financial regulations while investing £100 million in new signings for 2025–26, rebuilding Wolves F.C.’s ambition to climb the Premier League table.
Wolves FC were founded as St. Luke's FC in 1877. Later, when the club became one of the founding members of the English Football League in 1888, they changed the name from St. Luke's FC to Wolves F.C. In 1893, Wolves FC were crowned as the champions of the FA Cup, as a second division club. Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. won the English Championship title on three occasions in 1953–54, 1957–58, and 1958–59, all trophies won under the management of Stan Cullis. Wolves also won two FA Cup titles in 1949 and 1960.
After spending several years in the top division, Wolves were relegated to the second division. They suffered a financial crisis during the early-1980s recession that led to the club coming close to liquidation in 1982. In the five seasons between 1981–82 and 1985–86, Wolves were relegated four times. After fourteen seasons in the second tier between 1989 and 2003, Wolves reached the Premier League, founded in 1992, for the first time with victory in the 2003 play-offs, though they were relegated after a single season in the top division on this occasion. Wolves won the Championship in 2008–09 to return to the Premier League, but faced relegation in 2011–12, followed by relegation again in 2012–13. The club then returned to the Premier League after first winning the League One title in 2013–14, followed by another Championship title in 2017–18. Wolves became the first club in Premier League history to install floodlights on its home ground.
