Ex-CSK Player Warns Rajasthan Royals of "Revenge at Chepauk"

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) start Devon Conway has fired a warning to the Rajasthan Royals after his team’s horrific defeat in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 opener. The match between the two teams took place on Monday, March 31 in Guwahati.

Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK, who finished last at the points table in IPL 2025, were expected to start the new season on a high. However, they started from where they left last season as they faced a thrashing at the hands of the home team.

Put into bat, CSK, despite being one of the best IPL teams, had a horrible start with the bat as they were left reeling at 94 for nine. All the top-order batters struggled to get going, but it was Jamie Overton (43), who came to the rescue and powered Chennai to 127.

In the chase, Vaibhav Suryavanshi (52) took CSK bowlers the cleaners. He hit a 15-ball half-century, while Yashasvi Jaiswal (38*) played a composed innings during the RR vs CSK IPL 2026 match as they chased down the target with eight wickets in hand. He was the team's highest run-scorer and the third-highest overall in the tournament, averaging 51.69 with a strike rate of 139.71, including six fifties.

Conway was part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 as well, but wasn’t retained by the side for this season. This made him register for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he was picked by Islamabad United for PSL 2026.

Conway has decent numbers in the IPL, the biggest cricket league in the world. The New Zealand opener has played for Chennai Super Kings in the league, featuring in 29 matches. The opening batter has hammered 1080 runs, which is reflected as a good number amongst the overseas players.

The left-handed opener possesses a strike rate of around 140 in the league and has an average of 43. The Kiwi opener has also hit 11 half-centuries in the tournament with a best of unbeaten 92.
