Rishabh Pant’s Sister Sparks Buzz After Liking Post Against Shubman Gill

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian Team’s squad for the home series against Afghanistan. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the one-off Test match and the three ODIs.

Quite a few big names were dropped from the side and one among them was none other than Rishabh Pant. Despite not getting many opportunities in ODIs, he was dropped from the side with Ishan Kishan replacing him.

Although, he retained his place in the Test team, he was sacked as the vice-captain of the team with KL Rahul replacing him for this role. Notably, Pant was appointed as the vice-captain ahead of the England Test series last year.

Pant’s snub as a vice-captain of the Test team came as a surprise. Many lashed out at the selectors for their poor call of Rishabh Pant vice captain demotion as he has been the best batter of the side in the format over the last few years.

With Pant getting demoted as vice-captain, a video on social media went viral which claimed that Shubman Gill has played politics with and removed him from the vice-captaincy so that he doesn't have any competition in Test captaincy.

Notably, Pant has struggled to make a mark as a leader despite being one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the world. He was asked to lead the team during the series against South Africa when Shubman Gill got injured. However, he lost both the games as captain and also struggled to make a mark as a batter in those matches.

Why Was Rishabh Pant Dropped India Vice-Captain?

After Rishabh Pant vice captaincy demotion, chief selector Ajit Agarkar was asked about why the cricketer was dropped from the role. He said that the move was to bring the best out of Pant in the longest format of the game.

Pant has been struggling with his form of late. Even in IPL 2026, where he is captaining Lucknow Super Giants, he has failed to make mark. Under his leadership, the franchise is at the last spot in the IPL points table. The team has struggled overall and eliminated from the tournament.
