IPL 2026 Injured Players

With the Indian Premier League 2026 set to kick off on March 28, all eyes will be on the season opener between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is one of the oldest cricket stadiums in India. While the excitement continues to build, multiple franchises are already facing early challenges due to fitness-related issues.

Both RCB and SRH are awaiting clarity on the availability of their senior Australian pacers, whose fitness remains uncertain. At the same time, Kolkata Knight Riders are forced to rethink their bowling plans, with their key fast bowler likely to miss the tournament.

These concerns are mainly from a mix of fresh injuries sustained during the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup and ongoing issues that had already ruled some players out of the competition in India and Sri Lanka. Adding to the IPL 2026 injured players list, Chennai Super Kings have also been hit with a major blow just days before the season begins.

List of Injured/Unavailable Players in IPL 2026

According to the latest IPL 2026 injury update, Sam Curran is the latest name added to the long list of overseas fast bowlers who will miss the whole of IPL 2026. According to reports, Curran is dealing with a groin injury, which has forced him to pull out of the upcoming edition of the league.

Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Jack Edwards will miss the entire IPL 2026 season due to a foot injury. The team will also be without one of the best bowlers in the world, Pat Cummins, at the beginning of the tournament. Most recently, Chennai Super Kings specialist death bowler Nathan Ellis has picked up a hamstring injury, which would keep him out of the entire season.

Lockie Ferguson has chosen to skip the opening phase of the IPL season for the Punjab Kings so he can spend time with his family. The New Zealand pacer had earlier taken a brief paternity break during the T20 World Cup but returned to action within four days.

Delhi Capitals pacer Mitchell Starc has joined his fellow Australian fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins in missing the early part of IPL 2026. Cricket Australia is reportedly managing the workload of their key pacers with a busy Test schedule and the ODI World Cup coming up next year.

Matheesha Pathirana to Join KKR Ahead of IPL 2026

Kolkata Knight Riders were handed a major relief ahead of the new season after Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that their key signing Matheesha Pathirana, who was previously among the IPL 2026 injured players, is now fully fit and set to take part in IPL 2026.

There had been uncertainty around the availability of the pacer, but Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Bandula Dissanayake clarified that Pathirana has successfully completed his recovery process and has received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in the Indian Premier League.

He picked up a hamstring issue during the T20 World Cup, which had put his participation in the early part of IPL 2026 in doubt. However, the latest updates suggest that he has now recovered well and is expected to join his franchise ahead of the tournament.
