Major Security Breach at BCCI: IPL Jerseys Worth Lakhs of Rupees Stolen

However, the recent news has been shocking to the Indian and the Indian Premier League fans. A major theft has occurred at the BCCI's store. It is believed that the stolen products included the official IPL jerseys which were worth of more than half a million rupees.
How was the IPL Jersey Stolen?
Just a week after RCB’s 2025 win, the Indian Premier League has been hit with a shocking incident or controversy involving a major theft case. A total of 261 official IPL jerseys worth 6.52 lakh were stolen from the BCCI’s merchandise store located on the second floor of Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, which included Royal Challengers Bengaluru Jerseys and some other franchise jerseys.
The RCB jersey stolen case shook the BCCI to the core. According to a complaint filed by Hemang Bharat Kumar Amin, a BCCI employee, the incident happened on June 13, 2025, but the missing stock came to light during a routine audit weeks later than the actual theft. When officials reviewed the CCTV footage, it revealed that the man was walking out of the storeroom with a large cardboard box.
Later, upon investigation, that man turned out to be Farooq Aslam Khan, a 46-year-old security manager who was hired to protect the facility he ended up stealing from. The stolen jerseys weren’t just from one team; they included merchandise from all 10 franchises. Each jersey reportedly costs around 2500. The FIR was registered at Marine Drive Police Station under section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Who was Involved in IPL Jersey Theft Case?
As per the reports from the Times of India, the security guard involved with the safety of the merchandise store was the mastermind behind the theft. Police arrested the guard named Farooque, who stole 261 jerseys to meet his gambling addiction. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Khan had sold the stolen jerseys online to a dealer based in Haryana.
He reportedly met this dealer on social media and told him the jerseys were being cleared out due to renovation work at the BCCI office. Police believe that he did this to fund his online gambling addiction. As of now, 50 jerseys have been recovered, and the rest of them are still missing.
The dealer from Haryana has been summoned for questioning, and as per his claims, he was unaware that the merchandise was stolen property. Meanwhile, the police are now tracing the money trail through Khan’s bank account and are also reviewing any other communication between him and the buyer to find out the remaining merchandise.
Wake-up Call for BCCI?
As of now, an official complaint has been registered a case has been filed under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on a complaint lodged by a BCCI employee. The police are investigating the accused and are checking the CCTV footage to gather evidence to build the case and find out the remaining pieces of the merchandise. The theft of the Jerseys is estimated to cost around ₹6,52,500, according to police estimates.
The incident has now raised questions about the internal security and accountability within one of the richest cricket boards in the world. It’s not just about the worth of jerseys. It is about the breach of trust in a place considered one of the most secure cricketing venues in India. Although isolated, this theft underlines the importance of maintaining strict checks not just on the financials but also on day-to-day operations to avoid further incidents for BCCI to hit its credibility.
