Not only in the Indian Premier League, but they have also stamped their authority in the Champions League as well. Notably, the Champions League was a franchise tournament which featured top franchises from all the leagues in the world. But it was discontinued after a few seasons.
CSK won two titles here as well, highlighting their impact in world cricket. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who is rated as one of the captains of world, the franchise has done wonders, dominating almost every team. But since he left leadership, the side has struggled.
In the last two seasons of the IPL, CSK struggled to qualify for the playoffs of the tournament. Ruturaj Gaikwad was handed the leadership after MS Dhoni stepped down as a leader in 2024. However, the young player hasn't impressed yet.
N Srinivasan Makes a Comeback at CSK
CSK is probably the best team in IPL history alongside Mumbai Indians. With them struggling to get going in the last two seasons, there has been a massive change in the management. As per the reports in The Hindu Business Line, it is learned that N Srinivasan has taken over as chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL).
The news of N Srinivasan becoming CSK chairman has come out of the blue. After the India Cements, who are the owners of CSK, were bought out by Ultratech in December 2024, Srinivasan and his daughter Rupa Gurunath were automatically removed from the CSKCL’s board. However, in a major twist, both were then appointed as additional directors.
N Srinivasan CSK relations are memorable as he played a major role in the formation of the franchise in 2008. But officially, he didn’t hold any post in the franchise. He also served as BCCI president but had to leave the post when the spot-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League 2013 hogged the headlines.
Following that, he served as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and his group was at the helm of the things in BCCI till 2015. But his CSK links weighed heavily against him. Now, he will be back and will take charge of things.
N Srinivasan holds 0.11 per cent of shares in CSKCL. His wife, Chitra Srinivasan, and daughter, Rupa, have 0.03 and 0.01 per cent, respectively. His close ally K S Viswanathan has been serving as Managing Director of the franchise since a while and will be there till 2028.
CSK Performance in IPL 2025
Chennai Super Kings had a torrid time in the IPL 2025. After just a few games in the season, regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to elbow injury. In his absence, MS Dhoni was appointed as the skipper but was unable to turn the fortunes of his team. Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in IPL history, having won five titles with CSK.
While bowling was decent, CSK struggled big time with the bat. The batters looked out of sorts and couldn't score runs. Later, Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis added some firepower to the side but it was too late as they got already eliminated from the tournament.
CSK finished last in the points table as they won just four games out of the 14 games. They would be keen to make a strong comeback now next year. This was also for the first time that they failed to qualify for two consecutive seasons in the league. They will be under pressure going into the next season as they aim to start afresh. However, they will need their main players to perform.
