PBKS vs MI Rain

Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, is set to host an enthralling match between the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians. It is the second qualifier, and the winner of this match will play the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 3 June 2025, at the same venue. It is expected that in PBKS vs MI rain might cause some obstructions in this match as it is quite windy and overcast in Ahmedabad.

The toss has taken place, and the Punjab Kings have decided to bowl first due to the weather conditions, as having a target on board will help them to chase, keeping in mind the DLS target, in case it arises.

What will happen if PBKS vs MI Rains out?

If the match gets called off due to rain and no play is possible, the rules state that the team that finished higher in the league stage will move forward to the next round. This works in favour of the Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer. They finished at the top of the points table with 19 points, thanks to consistent performances throughout the tournament. In comparison, the Mumbai Indians ended in fourth place with fewer points. Since Punjab Kings had more points, they would qualify for the next stage if the match could not take place.

The BCCI and the IPL Governing Council have introduced extended time allowances to manage possible rain delays during matches. Beginning Tuesday, May 20, all remaining league stage games will have an extra hour available to complete play in case of weather-related interruptions. This adjustment mirrors the provisions already in place for the playoff matches, according to an earlier announcement by the BCCI.

Updated Rules for IPL Playoffs 2025

The IPL Playing Conditions, under Clause 13.7.3, outline how extra time should be used when a match is delayed or interrupted. For playoff games, up to 120 minutes of additional time is allowed to help complete the match. The match will start losing overs after 9:30 pm. To make things clear, the rules explain the order in which this extra time is to be applied. First, the full 120 minutes of extra time for playoffs is used. If more time is still needed, they then adjust by using the time set aside for strategic time-outs. After that, if necessary, the interval between innings can also be shortened to make up for lost time.

Cut-off Time, Reserve Day and Match Details: Updated

Under the IPL 2025 rules, each match must finish by 11:56 PM IST at the latest. If rain causes a delay or disrupts play, officials can use up to 120 minutes of additional time to try and finish the match. The updated guidelines also specify that no overs will be lost unless the delay exceeds two hours.

The IPL 2025 match timing structure outlines a clear framework for handling delays and ensuring results. Matches are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST, with up to 120 minutes of extra time available to accommodate interruptions, potentially pushing the game as late as 9:40 PM IST to complete a full 20-over contest. The absolute deadline to finish the match without any reduction in overs is approximately 11:56 PM IST. For a result to be declared, each side must play a minimum of 5 overs.

If time is limited, overs are reduced at a rate of 14.11 overs per hour based on the time remaining. However, if even a 5-over match per team isn't possible due to continued delays, the team placed higher on the points table, such as PBKS in this scenario, will advance to the final. The second qualifier of PBKS vs MI rain is playing a spoilsport, but things are expected to get normal as the rain might not last long.

Is there a Reserve Day for PBKS vs MI?

At present, there is no reserve day scheduled for the second qualifier match. Tournament officials have confirmed that only the final has a backup day set aside to accommodate any disruptions caused by weather. So, if the match of PBKS vs MI cancel due to rain, then we are going to witness a new IPL champion in 2025.
