Enzo Fernandez in, Dybala out as Argentina announces Copa America squad

The 2022 World Cup winner and Copa America defending champions will be heading into the United States next month and will play Ecuador and Guatemala on June 9 and 14, respectively. The defending champions have a favorable draw in Group A and will enter this summer tournament as the top seed.

Lionel Messi who was the joint top-scorer in the 2021 edition, will lead Argentina’s 29-man squad for the upcoming friendlies ahead of the Copa America in the United States. Coach Lionel Scaloni will be forced to trim the Argentina Copa America 2024 squad by three players to abide by CONMEBOL’s 26-man limit for the tournament since they increased the squad size from 23 to 26 this month.

Argentina legend Lionel Messi will link up with Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez, and Alejandro Garnacho with the latter receiving his maiden call-up to the tournament. The eigh-time Ballon d’Or winner will be joined by the majority of his teammates who helped him lift his maiden World Cup trophy in Qatar.
