Mike Maignan

Mike Maignan suffers season-ending injury just weeks ahead of EURO 2024

Mike Maignan is set to miss the rest of the season for AC Milan after picking up an injury. The French goalkeeper underwent an MRI scan, which revealed a low-grade lesion on his right adductor muscle.

The Serie A club have not revealed the recovery period for the goalkeeper, putting his appearance at the EURO 2024 in doubt. The 28-year-old got injured while warming up ahead of AC Milan’s match against Juventus last weekend.

He reportedly felt pain during the warmup and was taken out of the starting XI. The diagnosis has given bad news to the Italian club and France as their #1 goalkeeper is out.

Mike Maignan had established himself as the #1 for France following Hugo Lloris’ retirement. He faced tough competition from Brice Samba and Alphonse Areola but has managed to get 14 caps for the country.

Will Mike Maignan make it to the EURO 2024 squad?

However, this injury has made it tricky for him as Didier Deschamps is set to announce his squad for the summer tournament in just over two weeks. Reports in France suggest the press conference is scheduled for May 16th, just under a month before the tournament in Germany.

France play their first match at the EUROs on June 17th, when they take on Austria.
