Abhishek Sharma Scripts History with Record-Breaking Knock at Nagpur

Star Indian opener Abhishek Sharma is having a great time in his international cricket career. The 25-year-old opener recently appeared in the India vs New Zealand 1st T20I of the five-match T20I series, played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, on January 21.

Abhishek is the No. 1-ranked T20I batter in the world currently and showed again why he is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world with a stunning knock against the Kiwis. The left-hander was at his brutal best during the match as he left the opposition searching for answers.

Abhishek Sharma Creates New Record vs New Zealand

The left-handed batter, Abhishek Sharma, achieved another milestone in his career as he became the fastest Indian to score fifty vs NZ in T20I cricket. Abhishek reached the milestone off just 22 deliveries, beating the previous records of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, who had smashed fifties against New Zealand in 23 balls each back in 2020.

The young batter, who is one of the best T20 batsmen in the world right now, didn't stop even after scoring the fifty and started attacking the bowlers even more. He finally went back to the pavilion after scoring 84 runs off 35 deliveries, including eight sixes in the IND vs NZ 1st T20I. However, Abhishek Sharma fastest fifty record entertained the spectators in Nagpur.

Abhishek Creates Another Unique Record

While becoming the fastest Indian to score a half-century against New Zealand, Abhishek also etched his name in the history books with a rare record during his innings. The left-handed batter became the batter with the most fifties in less than 25 balls.

This was the eighth instance of this achievement, beating England’s Phil Salt, West Indies Evin Lewis, and India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who have achieved this milestone seven times in their respective careers.

Earlier, India were asked to put runs on the scoreboard by New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner. The Indian team started horribly after losing Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan on just 27 runs. However, Abhishek and Suryakumar steadied the ship and stitched a 99-run stand off just 47 balls for the third wicket. The Men in Blue went on to score 238-7 in 20 overs, their highest T20I total against New Zealand.
