Arshdeep Singh Bronco Test

In a shift from the previous Yo-Yo Test, Team India has now adopted the more demanding Bronco Test to assess players’ fitness levels ahead of the upcoming season. The new test is a tougher, more continuous run compared to the Yo-Yo Test, leaving little room for recovery.

Over the past few days, several top players, including Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Rinku Singh, and Arshdeep Singh, underwent the test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Jasprit Bumrah Bronco Test result has not been revealed yet, but given his reputation, many expect him to set the benchmark. Bumrah is not only one of the best bowlers in the world but has also managed to keep himself in great shape.

But surprisingly, the player who has stood out as the best till now in the Bronco test is a young fast bowler quietly outperforming everyone, even the likes of exceptionally fit Hardik Pandya and the newly appointed vice-captain of the T20I side, Shubman Gill.

Arshdeep Singh Bronco Test: Fast Bowler Sets New Fitness Benchmark

Arshdeep Singh Bronco test results have made headlines by setting a new fitness benchmark during the recently-introduced test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Arshdeep is known for his swing and control, and he surprised many by clocking one of the best timings in the endurance-based drill, which is fast replacing the old Yo-Yo test as India’s go-to fitness standard. According to the PTI, he emerged as the best fast bowler at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.

The Bronco Test, originally popular in rugby circles, involves running repeated shuttles in a timed format that totals 1.2 km. Unlike the Yo-Yo test, where players get short breaks, the Bronco is continuous, leaving no room for relaxation. What makes this achievement even more impressive is the growing list of players who've been put through this test recently.

Names like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, and Washington Sundar have all either taken or are scheduled to take the test, with most clearing it comfortably. The test is part of a broader push by the BCCI’s support staff, including strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux, to raise the fitness bar across the board. Here is the list of Indian players results in Bronco test.

What is Bronco Test in Indian Cricket Team?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the which is the richest cricket board in the world, has introduced the Bronco test for Indian players. Although this test is new to cricket, it’s been widely used in rugby for years as a way to assess an athlete’s aerobic endurance, speed, and recovery. The BCCI felt the need to go beyond the traditional Yo-Yo test.

How Does the Indian Cricket Team Bronco Test Work?

Despite its intensity, the Bronco Test has a simple setup. Four cones are placed at distances of 0, 20, 40, and 60 meters. The player starts from the baseline and completes a series of shuttle runs:

  • First, they run to the 20-meter marker and back.
  • Then to the 40-meter marker and back.
  • And finally to the 60-meter marker and back.

This sequence forms one set, which adds up to 240 meters. Each player is required to complete five continuous sets, making it a total distance of 1,200 meters. The test is done without any rest in between, making it a test of both endurance and mental strength. Once the five sets are completed, the total time is recorded to assess the player's fitness.
