Arshdeep Singh Creates History, Surpasses Jasprit Bumrah to Achieve This Monumental Feat

In a landmark moment for Indian cricket, Arshdeep Singh etched his name into the history books by becoming the first Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals, reaching the milestone during India's Asia Cup 2025 clash against Oman. The left-arm pacer achieved this feat in just 64 innings, with an astonishing average of 18 and a decent economy of 8.3, which is a remarkable milestone in itself.

Arshdeep Singh career has been prolific as he achieved this feat in just under four years since his debut. He is known for his pinpoint accuracy at the death and early swing with the new ball. He surpassed other experienced Indian T20 bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, etc., to achieve this record.

He was dropped in the first two matches of the Asia Cup 2025, as the management decided to go ahead with the services of Kuldeep Yadav over Arshdeep, due to the dry and spin-friendly conditions of the UAE. Jasprit was the only pacer in the side, along with a few overs from Hardik Pandya in the first two clashes of the Asia Cup 2025.

But, as India managed to qualify for the Super Four stage after winning the first two matches, the management decided to test the bench strength, which allowed Arshdeep to become the only Indian bowler to claim 100 international wickets for India.

Arshdeep Singh Record: First Indian Bowler to Claim 100 T20I Wickets

Arshdeep finally reached the milestone of picking up 100 T20I wickets against Oman during the Asia Cup 2025. The left-arm quick removed Vinayak Shukla off the last over of the match to create this impeccable record. It was a short of a length delivery to the batter on middle and off which he tried to swat away through the leg side. However, he couldn't connect well enough and was taken by Rinku Singh at deep midwicket.

With this wicket, Arshdeep became the first Indian to pick up 100 wickets in the T20I format. He raced to the milestone even ahead of Jasprit Bumrah, who is one of the best bowlers in the world. Bumrah currently has 92 wickets from 72 T20Is. On the other hand, Arshdeep reached this feat in just 64 T20Is.

Arshdeep Singh’s rise in T20 internationals has been nothing short of remarkable. Since his debut in 2022, the left-arm pacer has established himself as one of India’s most dependable match-winners in the shortest format of the game. Playing for one of the best cricket teams in the world like India is never easy but Arshdeep has shown his ability to stay at this level.

Now, with 100 T20I wickets to his name, he stands alone at the top of India's T20I wicket-takers list, ahead of names like Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya. What's most impressive is the pace at which he’s achieved the milestone. While Chahal took 80 matches to get to 96 wickets, Arshdeep has reached the three-figure mark in just 64 games.

Some of his most memorable performances include the 4/9 demolition job against the West Indies, a class spell against Pakistan in the 2022 Asia Cup, and a clutch performance in the death overs during India’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, more importantly, in the final. As of his landmark 100th wicket in the Asia Cup 2025, Arshdeep Singh has played 64 T20Is, picking up 100 wickets at an impressive average of around 18.3 and a strike rate close to 13.2. He has recorded two four-wicket hauls, with the best bowling figures of 4-9.
