USA Cricket In Huge Trouble Amidst MLC 2025 As ICC’s Ban Looms Around

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering suspending the USA Cricket Association (USACA) in the coming months. This comes as the 12-month governance notice given to the USA Board in July 2024 is coming to an end.

The ICC is expected to decide at its Annual Conference in July 2025. That leaves very little time for USACA to make big changes. Experts claim that USACA must show strong steps toward better governance. This involves fixing its internal structure and bringing in better leadership.

What is the Matter of USA Cricket Suspension?

According to a report by The Times of India, the ICC's apex council is not happy with the governance and lack of progress by the USAC in the past year.

Previously, the ICC had given USACA time to fix its problems. But not much has changed in the past year. If big changes are not made before the ICC Annual Conference in July 2025, the USA cricket suspension may become a reality.

In July 2024, the ICC issued a governance notice to USACA after it found that the internal structure of the board was weak. There were also problems with transparency and how the board was run. To help fix things, the ICC created a normalisation committee to guide USAC back to a stable leadership. However, insiders say that progress has been very slow.

"The situation is not working. We’ve tried many times to support USACA. But there are still many delays and internal fights. The time for waiting is over,” a source in the ICC said.

Even after a full year, the normalisation committee has struggled to bring change. Reportedly, some board members are not cooperating, and there is still poor leadership in key areas, which has made the ICC lose patience.

Earlier this month, ICC officials had travelled to Los Angeles, where they met with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the normalisation committee. The goal was to check if any real progress had been made. Sources who attended the meeting said the message from the ICC was clear: “Governance reforms must happen”. The ICC sees this as very important, especially because cricket is returning to the Olympics in 2028.
One person at the meeting also said, “The ICC wants strong leadership. Cricket’s return to the Olympics is a big moment. But USAC is not showing enough improvement. This cannot go on.”

Huge Blow on USA Cricket LA Olympics Chances

The ICC has not yet made a final decision, and the USACA is waiting for more detailed instructions; however, the situation looks serious. If the ICC decides to suspend USACA, the results would be very damaging. USAC would no longer receive funding from the ICC. It would not be allowed to play in international tournaments. The board also could not host official matches in the USA.

A suspension would also hurt cricket’s plans for the 2028 Olympics, where the USA is set to play a big role as host. But if USAC is suspended, it may not be involved at all. The normalisation committee still has a chance to turn things around. But the ICC has made it clear that more delays will not be accepted. One ICC official said, “We care about cricket in the USA. But we need proper leadership. Without that, we cannot continue to support USAC.”

The future of USA Cricket now hangs in the balance. The ICC has given clear warnings. If changes are not made quickly, suspension could be just weeks away. This would be a major setback for the sport in America, just three years before cricket returns to the big Olympic stage.
