The Indian Cricket Team started the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 on a decent note. They ended up drawing the five-match Test series against the England Cricket Team by a margin of 2-2, away from home. India, who failed to reach the final of the ICC WTC 2023-25, won two games in their first series of the new cycle. They defeated England by 336 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham, which was their biggest win margin in the longest format of the game overseas.

After that, India won the last game of the series against England at The Oval. They registered a brilliant six-run win with Mohammed Siraj shining with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul in the second innings and a total of nine wickets in the game. Also, this was their narrowest win in the longest format of the game. With the win, India moved to third spot in the ICC WTC 2025-27 points table. They have a PCT of 46.67. In the WTC points table, they are now behind Australia and Sri Lanka, who are two of the best cricket teams in the world. With the way they have started the new cycle, India look favourites to qualify for the ICC WTC 2025-27 final. This is because they have few home series as well coming their way, and with them being dominant at home, they are expected to do well.

India WTC Final Qualification Chances After a Series Draw vs England

India will play six series in the ICC WTC 2025-27 cycle - three at home and three away. India WTC final qualification for 2027 requires Shubman Gill's men to win at least four out of their last five games in this cycle of the tournament. This might not guarantee them a place in the final, but there are high chances that they will be in the top two positions. Hence, Shubman Gill and his team will have an uphill task to make it into the final, having missed out in the last one. The Men in Blue had a slight advantage during the fifth Test against England as the hosts were missing their skipper Ben Stokes, one of the best Test captains in the world.
