Not Injury! Bangladesh Player Rules Out of Asian Games Due To This Unique Reason

Ahead of the Asian Games Quarter-finals, Bangladesh have been dealt a major blow as their star batter, Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out of the entire tournament.

Shanto is a key player of this Bangladesh batting line-up and despite not being the T20I captain, he has a key role to play. Bangladesh will be looking forward to other players in the squad like the captain Litton Das and the vice-captain Towhid Hridoy.

Why Najmul Hossain Shanto is Not Playing Asian Games?

Shanto was suffering from fever on Monday morning and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have decided to send him home on 29th September. They are playing a One-off Test match against Afghanistan starting on October 9th.

So, the board has decided not to risk the batter and send him home. The BOA stated that it was advised to send Shanto home after an assessment by the Bangladesh Contingent doctor, BCB physiotherapist and the local medical team.

Najmul Hossain Shanto fever is a blow to Bangladesh cricket team as they aim to win a medal in the sport. Shanto's absence will further dent this batting order which will be playing its first match on September 29 at the Korogi Sports Park.

When Will Najmul Hossain Shanto Return?

It has been a tough time for Shanto, who is arguably one of the best batsmen in the world. He had returned to the T20I setup for the first time in 16 months and was looking forward to playing the Asian Games but unfortunately he suffered from fever.

He started feeling unwell in the morning and did not take part in the practice session. According to BCB’s Physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, the left-hander has been feeling feverish since the flight to Japan and his body has become quite weak.

It has been four days and they have conducted blood tests and in the reports, they found some infectious agents in the system. The reports for COVID came back negative but he won't be able to get fit for the final and it was better to send him home.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play Malaysia in their Quarter-finals on Tuesday but if the match is washed out, they will qualify and set up a clash against Pakistan in the semis. Pakistan and India have already qualified for the semis as their matches were washed out due to rain and they qualified due to higher ranking.
