The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 started with a bang and gave a glimpse of what is about to come in the next month or so. There were some brilliant individual performances to start the tournament and it’s fair to say that we are in for a feast.

Almost every team has a few veteran players and they are expected to add the much-needed calm to the squad full of youngsters. However, we might see these experienced players calling time on their career just after the tournament in a bid to allow youngsters to take the place and take team forward.

On that note, let’s take a look at 5 players who will retire after 2026 T20 World Cup.

5 Players Who May Retire After T20 World Cup 2026

The T20 World Cup retirement list might include some of the big names who have been excellent in this format over the years. However, the age factor might rule against their favor. Here are some of the famous cricketers retirement that might happen after the upcoming ICC event:

1. David Miller

One of the best players to have played for South Africa, David Miller, might be among the players to call time on his career after the T20 World Cup 2026. Miller, 36, reportedly was planning to retire after the last edition of T20 World Cup, but decided to give one final push. A veteran of 133 games would be eager to take his team to a title win and retire on a high note.

2. Mohammad Nabi

The oldest player in the T20 World Cup 2026, Mohammad Nabi, has very high chances of retiring after the tournament as the age factor is not on his side. He recently also announced his retirement, but reversed the decision as he wanted to play alongside his son, who is looking to enter the Afghanistan cricket team. With him being 41, he is expected to retire after the World Cup.

3. Glenn Maxwell

Having retired from the ODIs, Maxwell, one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world, is active only in T20Is for Australia. But his recent form has been a cause of concern and many have been contemplating his retirement. Glenn Maxwell also pulled out of the IPL and with him being injury-prone, it won’t be a surprise if he calls time on his career after the T20 World Cup 2026.

4. Suryakumar Yadav

It will be a big shock if Suryakumar Yadav announces his retirement after the T20 World Cup 2026. But, there are a few factors that he might consider. The age is surely not on the side of one of the best T20 batsmen of all time. The Indian captain has already turned 35 and by the time the next World Cup begins, he will be 38. In Indian cricket, we have seen that players are sidelined after 35 and that might be the case for Surya as well.

Also, we have seen India trying to hand over the captaincy to Shubman Gill in all three formats. He has taken over the leadership in ODIs and Tests from Rohit Sharma and was also the vice-captain in T20Is as well. But poor performances in the shortest format resulted in him getting dropped. However, after the World Cup, we might see him back and Suryakumar announcing retirement.

5. Sanju Samson

With the return of Ishan Kishan in the Indian T20I side, the road is likely to have ended for Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper-batter has got enough chances but was a big disappointment in the recent T20I series against New Zealand.

Also with Kishan grabbing his opportunity with both hands and the likes of Jitesh Sharma also there, Samson might not get opportunities now. This might propel him to call time on his career, which promised a lot at one time.
