Pratika Rawal Breaks 37-year Old Record in WODIs

Pratika Rawal

Pratika Rawal has added her name to the record books by becoming the joint fastest woman to reach 1,000 runs in Women's One Day Internationals. The 24-year-old opener from Delhi achieved the milestone in just her 23rd innings, joining a long-standing record set by Australian batter, Lindsay Reeler, who also took twenty-three innings to get there back in 1988.

It is a huge achievement for the young India batter who is still new to international cricket. Since her debut against Ireland, she has scored runs heavily, thus making herself a key part of India's ODI team. She, alongside the vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, have been the pillars of India's batting in the ODIs.

Pratika Rawal Record: India Opener Reaches New Milestone

Opener Pratika Rawal reached the landmark during India’s World Cup clash against New Zealand Women at the Dr D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on October 23, 2025. She has always played with maturity beyond her age. Pratika entered the match with an impressive run tally of 988 runs from 22 ODIs, averaging 47.04 with the bat.

Pratika Rawal world record was achieved after she smashed a four through the midwicket region in the 10th over of the innings, bowled by Sophie Devine. It was a terrific shot as she became the fastest to 1000 WODI runs. She might be going through a rough patch in this World Cup but has been a great inclusion to India's ODI set-up.

Rawal has scored over 200 runs this tournament in the six matches she has played so far. However her low strike rate has been a cause of concern. She has played at a strike rate of just around 70 which is clearly not ideal according to the current scenario. She came into this tournament in good form but hasn't been able to replicate that in this tournament so far. However, she has all the credentials to become the best women cricketer in the world.

India in a Do-or-Die Position

India are in a must-win position during their match against New Zealand. They have lost their last three matches against the best women's cricket teams in the world like South Africa, Australia, and England. This has put them in a do-or-die position where they need to defeat the White Ferns at any cost. New Zealand are a highly experienced team and will pose a difficult challenge to India.

Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana have started well with an excellent opening partnership. However, they will be expected to prolong the partnership.

India have lost all the matches by the narrowest of margins. In the last game against England, they lost to England by 4 runs in a match that was in hosts' favor. India were in a winning position but the middle and lower order failed to finish off the game and crumbled under pressure. As a result, Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur's excellent partnership went in vain.
