Jasprit Bumrah OUT, Auqib Nabi IN! India's Probable Squad for BGT 2027

The BCCI has announced Team India's home schedule for the next few months. The Men in Blue will host some of the best cricket teams in the world for 22 matches across 17 venues across the country.
Amongst all the series, the focus will be on the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2027. This will mark their final stretch of preparations before the global transition to the ODI format for the World Cup to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
This Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to begin in January 2027 as part of a packed home season. The matches are expected to be played at Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, which have some of the best cricket stadiums in the world. It will be an important series for India considering their current position in the WTC points table. Let's have a look at India's probable squad for this high-octane series.

How Will India Squad for BGT 2027 Look Like?

As the schedule for this much-anticipated home series against Australia has been announced, it's time for the probable India squad. There are strong indications that the BCCI will pick a strong Indian squad which is likely to face a tough competition.

Top order batter Shubman Gill will lead the team while the batting core will see Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul returning to the opening slot. With the departure of veterans, Gill has smoothly moved into the critical No. 4 position previously held by Virat Kohli.

Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan are expected to bolster the middle order, while Sai Sudharsan remains a key contender for the No. 3 slot. Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi is likely to get a maiden call-up from the national Test team after his impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah Likely to be Rested

Keeping the biggest event of cricket, the ODI WC, in mind, the best bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, is most likely to be rested for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2027. The next WTC final is also scheduled to be played in 2027. As Jasprit Bumrah remains India’s X-factor, his history of injuries and performance overload has been a serious issue. For India to stand a chance at the 2027 World Cup, a fully fit Bumrah is a non-negotiable requirement.

In his place, Auqib Nabi is expected to be included in the squad. Nabi has been in red-hot form in the domestic circuit and has given the biggest contribution in Jammu and Kashmir's maiden Ranji Trophy-winning campaign. This makes Auqib Nabi Test debut a big possibility. The spin department will be led by Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
