The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come with a massive step ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. Just ahead of the new edition of the tournament, they have increased the prize money, inching closer to the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) dominance.

The PSL, which is growing with each passing day, will witness a significant prize pool for the franchises. The development was confirmed by the chairman of the PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, who made the decision public through a social media post.

The new edition of the PSL will see winners of the tournament getting a reward price of $500,000 while the runners-up will take home $300,000. Not only this, there will be a prize money of $200,000 for the winner which will be recognized for its contributions to cricket development. This will encourage the league which features some of the best cricketers in the world every year.

Mohsin Naqvi Announces New PSL Prize Money

The IPL vs PSL prize money still has a massive difference. The PSL 2026 prize money has been taken to a new level. Mohsin Naqvi, while announcing the new cash prize, stated that it is a step to take Pakistan cricket to new heights. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, he said:

“Complementing the Pakistan Super League's growth, I am thrilled to announce a new Reward for Franchises in the forthcoming editions:

  • Champions: $500,000
  • Runners-up: $300,000
  • Best Franchise contributing towards Cricket Development: $200,000

Let's take Pakistan cricket to new heights,” Naqvi tweeted.

Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 to Have Two New Teams

The PSL aims to become one of the richest cricket leagues in the world. The auction of the PSL 2026 for two new teams will take place on 6 January 2026. The league next year will see two more teams getting added.

Various reports claimed that PCB has shortlisted Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit. Also, only “technically qualified bidders will be permitted to enter the auction, and successful applicants will have the right to choose their preferred city and team name from the approved list.”

The recent reports suggest that Faisalabad and Gilgit will be given the nod ahead of the other franchises. This all came after the PCB had issues with Multan Sultans and the board didn’t give the renewal offer letter to the 2021 champions.

The rest of the teams like Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiator got the offer. There is a strong chance that Multan won’t be allowed to play and will be replaced by two new teams. With two new teams set to be included, the PSL 2026 is expected to be a blockbuster. They are slowly getting in par with the Indian Premier League and it remains to be seen if they will surpass the Indian league or not.
