Shubman Gill Injury

The India national Cricket Team is all set to face a big blow ahead of the second Test against the South Africa Cricket Team. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the captain Shubman Gill is doubtful for the second match of the series, set to be played in Guwahati from 22nd November.

One of the biggest reasons for India losing the opening Test against South Africa was the absence of Shubman Gill. The Indian captain, after facing just three balls, in the first innings sprained his neck and looked in immense pain and was deemed unfit to carry on.

He walked off the field and then didn’t return to bat and to lead the team in the second innings with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirming that he has been ruled out of the game. Things looked serious than expected as Gill was admitted to the hospital.

Shubman Gill Ruled Out of IND vs SA 2nd Test?

The India Test captain stayed in the hospital for one night and the reports in ESPNCricinfo claimed that he has been discharged from the hospital. However, despite that, he will be missing the second Test match of the series, which will be a must-win game for India.

Following the defeat, India are all set to undergo a training session in Kolkata on Tuesday, which Gill will be missing. The reports claimed that the team will fly to Guwahati on Wednesday and Shubman Gill's injury won’t allow him to travel with the side as travelling is not advised for people recovering from neck issues.

This will make almost every fan wonder and question “Is Shubman Gill Playing Today” on the match day of the second Test. But with him unlikely to travel, this means that he will miss the second Test and this will act as a big blow as India are already 0-1 down in the series.

Gautam Gambhir on Shubman Gill Injury

Gill is currently one of the best captains in the world. During the press conference after the match against South Africa, Gautam Gambhir provided an update on Shubman Gill. He said that the India Test captain is still being assessed and they will take a call for his availability only after the report by the physio.

"Obviously, Shubman (Gill) wasn't there, and then losing two before lunch, we were literally three down. But we always felt that if we got those partnerships, a 50-run partnership or two 40-run partnerships, we would've been in the game." He (Gill) is still being assessed. So, let’s see. The physios will take a call today evening and we will take a call,” he said.

If Shubman Gill misses the last Test, it will come as a massive blow for the team. He has been one of the best Test batsmen this year and his absence will leave a massive void in the XI. India have Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal in the mix and one of them is expected to play. In his absence, Rishabh Pant will continue as the captain of the team. He was the stand-in skipper in the first game after Gill’s injury.
